KitchenAid 24 in. KUDS02FRSS Stainless Steel Built-in Dishwasher Logo

Related Topics:

We are renting a home that has a KitchenAid Stainless steel dishwasher. The door would latch before we used it for the first time (putting dishes in, then closing and latching the door), however, the first time we go to use it, after selecting the cycles, press start, close the door within the 3 seconds, it will not stay latched. Am I doing something wrong or is there a fault with the latch? I am not sure of the exact model number, however, the buttons are on the top, inside of the door.

SOURCE: dishwasher door latch

I just had this problem (or should I say, finally had the time to deal with it). Google searches revealed different ways to get the door open including repairmen with crowbars (causing replacement of the entire control assembly $$$), having to back out the top screws that hold the dishwasher in place (and to the top of the counter) with pliers, then moving the dishwasher out from the counter.

Nuts to all that.

First things first. Turn OFF the power to the dishwasher.

I wound up on my back first watching how the handle moved and which side seemed to be loose, in my case the right side was moving freely. After first trying to hold the handle in the "down" position with a springhook (to no avail) I wound up biasing the handle to the right (with a screwdriver inserted on the left side of the handle) while moving the handle in the "operate" direction. Suddenly (and without warning) the entire handle assembly moved to the right and created an opening that made it simple to stick a screwdriver up to operate the latch manually.

Four screws later the control panel was out, the offending broken handle assembly was in my hands to discover that they could have easily made the little tabs the hold the handle in place a whole lot sturdier, but let's not go there...

If I had to do the whole thing again it would have taken me less than 5 minutes to open it up I'm sure. Now to simply order the part and install it when it arrives. The best part is we can still run the dishwasher until it gets here!

SOURCE: Kitchenaid dishwasher - door will not latch

The latch needs to be replaced. Kitchen Aid has made two updates to this latch. I.E. 2-revised latches. I just replacd the latch assembly and the dishwasher works fine now. Do a search for kitchen aid repair parts online and hav them shipped to your home. The repair takes five minutes. Un-screw all torx bit screws on door and the latch is under neath. One electrical dip switch held on by another screw and a two prong tab to undo the old latch. This seriously took me five minutes to repair and the parts were $40.00 online shipped.

Hope his helps.

Door won't stay latched on dishwasher

Make sure nothing is binding the racks which could be pressing against the door when closed. Also make sure the dishwasher isn't installed too tightly in its place, which puts pressure on the latch. You may need to lower the leveling legs a bit.

Our newer dishwasher does not clean the dishes presently. The water heats up, and drains properly, but I noticed the sprayer nozzles are not spinning when I open the dishwasher.

Try manually rotating the spray arm. Check the orifices & clean if clogged.

After loading the dishes check every time before closing the door for free rotation of the spray arm.

yep you can just get springs from lowes or home dept or your local hardware store; they're often in with the hardware (i.e., screws) and not plumbing. remember that the springs need to stretch out a bit, too; so you may end up buying springs that look shorter than they should, but they eventually habituate.

Food on dishes

Dish washers are not good at removing food debris.  They filter the water somewhat but in the main, they recirculate whatever was on the plates when you put them in plus the detergent.  The rinse takes all grease and solubles away.  Scrape your dishes of as much as you can before putting them in.  Use a good detergent in the amount specified.
