Sansa e260 key locked(?)

PLEEASE HELP! i cant find anything about locking a sansa 260, but that seems to have happened to me somehow listening to my player through some mini speakers and it suddenly froze up. it wouldnt turn off for ages but my friend managed to turn it off somehow, possibly using the record and off button together. now when i turn it on it says key locked, system shutdown. if i turn it on while pressing the record button it says welcome to recovery mode, so i connect my USB but it doesn't seem to do anything, and all i can find in the removable disk is a wordpad file with some kind of code written in. then when i disconnect it seems to refresh files etc, but then it says key locked, system shutdown again!!! im sure this is probably something obvious i just dont know about, but i really need to fix/unlock it, theres loads of important recordings on my player which arent backed up and i CANNOT lose them!!!! please someone help me!

Seems kinda obvious, but did you turn off the hold switch on the top?

Key lock is on

There's a slide switch on the top of the unit, near the headphone jack. Slide it away from the jack to unlock the unit.

When turning on the Sansa e260 it is now in the Key LOCKED mode

I had a similar problem with my e250. The problem was that one of the plastic arms on the lock switch had broken off. The one that locked it was still in place but the other wasn't, so I could always lock it but never unlock it.

Since you already know how to open the case, take a look at the switch at the top. Use a pen or something and slide it to the unlocked position (away from the headphone jack). Put it back together and see if it works. If it does, just remember never to lock it again.

I have a sandisk sansa e260 and it keeps saying key locked system is shutdown how do i unlock it

On the top of the sansa, there is a piece that slides back and forth. slide it so that you don't see orange. If you see the orange, that means that it is locked and it can't do anything.

Stuck Screen

It seems as thought the player itself has actually frozen. I have the same player and it has never done this to me. If you havent allready try leaving it alone in a quiet place for a day or two until it runs out of battery. Then plug it in to your PC to charge and it should be okay. As this has happend to me with other players. If it isnt however, try to resolve the issue by somehow updating the firmware. Try googling "SanDisk Sansa e260 Firmware Upgrade" and see what you can find. If there is something which looks hopeful try it, but if it doesnt work, the perhaps the only option is to return or exchange the player at its place of purchase. P.S Check the USB modes.
