I have a a Philips CD recorder as detailed above.
When turned on neither CD tray will open.
The screen is asking me to insert disc but when I try to open either tray I get the message 'TRAYS LOCKED'.
I have read the manual that came with it but could not find a referance to this.
Are you able to tell me how to unlock thje trays please.
You power off then power back on while holding down the fast forward and rewind buttons on the recording side simultaneously. The display moves through a sequence of numbers and the trays will then open.

this depends on what make of disc mostly the philips machines only work with their own brand of disc try placing an original disc if thats ok then its the blank cd that you are useing got to be philips brand
Nope. Does the red light come on on the front of the unit?It should then startup saying 'philips recorder'scrolling across the display. When you press to open it should click and say'open'on the screen. If it just says 'open' with no whirring or tray opening you can try a service mode test. If it displays 'locked'it's set to dealer mode that can be removed.
I had the same problem and i found out that if you hold down the fast forward and the rewind buttons with the power on and off button it will reset. It took me a couple of goes but after a while it worked. When you do it keep all of the buttons held down and a series of numbers flash for about a minute then it will reset. Good luck, Jeff.
