The computer runs very well on an exterior monitor but the lcd screen is very very dark, thought you can see what is displaying but barely, the back lighting is not working any more, it does not appear to receive any power, it is not a major issue since I can use an exterior monitor, are they a quick fix on that problem ? is the circuitry that gives the power to light the lcd screen on the motherboard or in the lcd screen ?
Its in neither its a seperate circuit board that connects the screen to the motherboard and its called an inverter

you will need the correct inverter board for your laptop and will need to find the relevant instructions on how to replace / repair it and take care and have lots of patience and persistence as it can be fiddly
