I have the same problem. I have the NEC multisync LCD 1700 v monitor which started off with just blanking out but if I turned it off & on it came back. Then it died totally. Nothing shows. I put another big honking monitor that I kept for emergencies, so not the same!, & it works fine.

this is either the flourescent bulbs are going out or the power supply has bad capactors on it. You might open it up and look at the power supply board for capacitors with their ends that look like they are "erupting" on the ends.. this means they need to be replaced.
the monitor may be losing the back lite. take a flash light or bright light and shine it at the screen after it goes black. can you see a faint picture? if so the back lite has failed. usually the cost of replacement exceeds the cost of a new monitor but there are a couple of web sites that detail the replacement of the "ccfl" cold cathode flouresecent light.
Your monitor is going into power saving mode. When it receives no video signal from the computer, it will stay powered for a few seconds before giving up and presuming the PC is off hence why it stays green for a while, then goes orange.
It's probably bad capacitors on the power supply board. These monitors are notorious for having the electrolytic capacitors blow out; cheap components! I would suggest replacing the two 1000 mfd capacitors and the three 220 mfd capacitors with 35 volt components from Radio Shack. That fixed one of my LCM-19V7s but not a second one which seems to have some other power supply problem.
A reddish picture is the classic symptom of worn out backlight bulbs. Sensor circuits usually shut down the power to the bulbs in a second or so. Monitor Mike.
Beautiful screen, lasts about for a few minutes, goes black. Power button still green. If I turn it off, and then back on, it works again for a while. Any ideas?
does it display a picture for a few seconds before it goes blank. or do you not get any picture?.
i think i might know what it is but if you could let me know :-)
All the best
John
