The ice made in the ice maker on my Ge tfx25jr has started to smell bad and that will ruin a drink. My water from the faucet taste okay but the ice almost has a metallic taste. I want to change the filter but don't know where to find it. Can anyone tell me what I should do? Thanks, Andrea

SOURCE: GE side by side refrigerator: water/ice dispensor

I bought a brand new smartwater replacement filter and after a very short time, my water stopped coming through the door.. took out the new replacement filter and inserted a brand new one .. problem solved.. apparently some of the g.e. smartwater filter replacement cartridges don't have the high enough two plastic inserts which are attached to them at the top of the filter when you screw them on... if you have taken your cartridge in and out a few times, i think it wears down the plastic so it doesn't fit properly and won't put up whatever it is supposed to push up to make the water come through.. I personally think this is a g.e. problem with the replacement filters...

SOURCE: Water from Ge profile refrigerator

The water filter for this refrigerator is optional. The GE part number is: WR97X0214, or one of the box stores also carries a universal filter. Just make sure it for a ¼ inch line. The water filter is located on the back side of your refrigerator, and will have to be pulled out from the wall. Use caution not to break the water line when pulling/rolling it out.

Why does my drinking water from the auto water dispenser smell??

In some instances when the cool water and/or ice maker is not used for some time, mold can accumulate in the tubing between the water intake and the ice maker. Once this happens, it is very difficult to eliminate. One method is to disconnect the tubing from both ends and block one end off. Then fill the tubing with bleach or half bleach and half water and let stand for just a few minutes. Then drain the bleach from the tubing and flush the tubing thoroughly. Be sure to run adequate water through the system to completely eliminate the residual odor/taste of the bleach before reconnecting.

Why is there a bad taste and smell in water in all faucets

Could be old pipes you should get a new clean glass container, get a water sample and take it to the water department and have it tested. I would not drink it until you have it checked.

Check your water filter inside the unit up in either the left or right side of the top. If you do not have a filter then add a filter to the unit on the supply line to help with this problem
