Try going through the initial install process again. But don't allow it to reformat the drive. If this doesn't work, the drive may be toast. They are quite fragile devices and can't be banged around, especially wile reading or writing data. The data can be at least partially recovered by specialized companies, but quite costly.

Hi there, It would read like any other USB Drive in the market.Documentation and Software are preloaded on drive, The utilities Maxtor Backup and OneTouch Manager software applications are also included. Use USB 2.0 Y cable to connect to your computer. But before doing that Attach the power Cable for your adopter first. Hope this helps.

Maxtor one touch iii unable to read drive; the external hard drive previously worked and now it doesn't read the drive

please remove the raw drive from the casing
it may be a sata drive of maxtor please power it up directly to your pc with a sata power and sata cable
the drive will get recognised .
if it gets recognised it means the interphase between the disk and the ext casing has been damaged

if you fail , the disk has lost its firm ware or rom chip rom bin file.
both can be flashed and recover the drive
BEcaerful you can break the plastic casing while removing the raw drive as it had been machine dyed and fixed and you may not find any screw s outside

Need drivers for a Maxtor 80GB Onetouch III Mini edition

I have a Maxtor Ext HD myself. Maxtor has a website. Try www.maxtor.com or Google it and you will find their web site. Then search for your HD and do a search for the download of the drivers needed for your HD

Light turns on but My Computer does not recognize the drive

Sounds like you lost the drivers for your external. W/ out an online PC you cannot download them either. Do you have a friend that could do this on their PC? That is the only way.

No longer recognized by Win Me PC

UNINSTALL THE HARD WARE FROM THE SYSTEM ..UTILITIES FOLDER IN CONTROL PANEL
IF ITS RECOGNISED THERE IT MEANS THE DRIVE NEEDS THE SAME WIN ME DRIVERS WHICH COULD BE CORRUPT
YOU CAN TRY TO CONFIG IN SETUP TOO.
CONFIGURE THE HD IN HARD DISK DETECTION NOT AS AUTOMATIC IN BIOS , BUT AS LBA MODE DEFINING THE CYLINDERS AND THE HEADS AND OTHER DATA WHICH IS USUALLY WRITTEN ON THE HD WHITE COVER.
