It sounds like a defective webcam.

i suggest that you reinstall the driver for your acer webcam. this can only be a software prob, not an issue with the webcam itself. if u still have the package that came with the laptop, try to look for a reinstallation disc for the webcam if none, go to this link and look for the specific model, you should be able to locate your webcam's driver there. it's for free

1st You download Webcam Driver.
vf-0040 webcam won't install
After this install the Webcam driver in the system.
Installation of Webcam Driver
Go to the control panel
Click on the System Icon
Click on the Hardware Tab
Click on the Device Manager s
Select the Unknown Device or printer device where yellow Question Marks sign on it.
Right click on it and uninstall it.
After this go to the top of the device manager and click on scan for hardware changes.
Driver installation Wizard start.
Brows Your Driver from the Hard Disk and click on next.
Driver will be install.

click start control panel view devices and printers you should see your webcam from there
if you are have trouble with your webcam
click start control panel administrive tools ,computer management ,device manager scroll down image devices you could see a yellow question mark?
right click to reinstall drivers or update driver

Hi rex onil, i'm sure the driver with your built-in webcam is already installed with your pc maybe some application of this sotfware are currupted you just try to fix your webcam thru re-configure the driver of this you go to control panel you click system open it and click the hardware click manager devices and wait all attached devices comes out then find your built in webcam in the list then double click then click driver then update the driver then re-start your computer to execute the update.Thanks for using fixya.

Hi....Use the webcam button in the messenger software : yahoo, msn and it will automatically turn on and start the webcam.

The IC50C features a 320 x 240 video image with an adjustable focus ring, but does not feature a built-in microphone.

Most webcams DO have a built in microphone!

Try returning it under the sale of goods act (or whatever law applies where you are) in that it is not suitable for the purpose for which you purchased it.

You could then replace it with a logitech webcam (starting at $19.99) or microsoft webcam (starting at $14.99) which both have built in microphones. (See here for comparasoms)

The higher the specifications (and unfortunately, price) the camera has the better quality of transmission it has but if you just want to chat over messenger or similar any of the webcams with the built in microphone would be suitable.
