Cannot remove fan blades from a holmes bionaire bsf152t stand fan. taken the front grill off but turning the 'nose cone' in either direction doesn't work. i know this'll end up being retardedly easy but we've lost the manual and the obvious isn't working :-)
Hi! there,
there are two type of removing the blade of electric fan,one is there is a center knob with mark arrow loosen and tight direction at the center holding fan blade, this to lock fan blade on its shafting. to remove fan blade.loosen holder knob on clockwise direction while holding the fan blade,to release the knob check the arrow on the knob. after loosening knob pull out blade from the shafting.
the other type the fan blade has lock in bolt at the back side of the fan blade bolt in on the shafting of the fan, you need here a tools such as set of socket wrench small one to loosen the bolt
after loosening lock in bolt, pull out fan blade.

First, make sure the fan is unplugged. Second, remove the front fan guard. Then to remove the blade you have to loosen the dome like nut nut at the center of the fan. This is a left handed thread so you will need to turn it the opposite direction (clockwise) of a regular nut in order to loosen it.
I have a Holmes pedestal fan that does this every few years. I have had this fan for about 10 years.
Unplug the fan and remove the fan blade guard. The fan blade should spin easily when you tap the edge of the fan blades with your finger. If the blade barely moves and abruptly stops, the bearings are dirty and need to be cleaned and oiled with 10W non-detergent motor oil. A quick-fix is a tiny bit of WD-40 where the motor shaft (the rod that the fan blade is mounted on) meets the bearing (the part of the motor that the shaft spins on). To properly fix this, you must oil both the front and back motor bearings which requires removal of the motor housing.
If the fan blade spins easily and you are certain that the fan is getting power (try a different outlet) the motor may be bad. Likewise, if the fan blade will not move at all. I do not know if Holmes sells motors for these fans. Here is their online support website:
Seriously?? It's a $30.00 fan. IF you could get parts for it, they'll cost you more that the original price of the fan, but I guess if you insist. Go here and call them or chat online, they'll tell you if parts can be had.

"Our fan\'s blade will barely turn. Can it be fixed?"
Of course. Usually the front bearing gets dry and gummy. The fan may run after the armature is warm, but it fails to start when it's cold.
Unplug the fan first, right? Then lay the fan flat. If you can get access to the shaft near the front bearing, just put a few drops of sewing machine oil on the shaft. Let it sit a while, then put the fan in its normal operating position, plug it in and turn it on.
If you can't get close to that area, you'll need to take the grill off, and remove the blades. Then lay the fan flat and squirt some sewing machine oil on the shaft near the front bearing. The rear bearing is usually OK, while the front one seems to get dry and gummed up.
With the fan flat, run the motor on and off until it starts spinning freely. Then replace the blades and the grill.
Failing all this, you might find some retired old timer who still does this type of work.
mcdevito75 here, hello ken, I did a fast search and I think www. shop.com can help you out with Marvin air fans, I didn"t find anything on Marvin Air Fans itself. Now about the nose cone covering the nut holding the blade to the fan shaft, most of these nose covers are press fit, see if you can gently pry that nose cover off with a small screwdriver.
Hi,
There should be a black round nut in front of the blades in the very center. It will have ribs on it so you can grab it. Turn it Counter clockwise, and it should unscrew.
Then you can remove the blade assembly and get to the back cage to tighen the screws. This should take care of the problem. Re assemble in reverse order. Let me know if you have any more questions or if this doesnt work. Good luck.
