I just bought a new xbox 360 disc drive and installed it myself. now when i put a game in, it says i need to put my disc into a xbox 360. i need help flashing my disk drive.
You will need to backup the firmware from you original drive and flash it to your new drive as the old drive is tied to the motherboard with a 16 byte key

If you have recently tried to mod your Xbox 360 then you did not get the drive key installed correctly. Otherwise the laser lens is either dirty/ starting to weaken. You can either replace the laser lens in the disc drive, try to clean it, try the POT tweak or replace the whole disc drive. Keep in mind if you replace the disc drive you will need to swap the PCBs or the drive keys.

Some game are compatible with the new xbox 360. They are called backwards compatible and you do need to flash upgrade the OS on the new xbox 360 system.
You need to go to the xbox website and go to support and download the flash update then burn it to disk and put it on the xbox to update the software. Again not all old games are compatible with the new xbox system. If your buying used games like I do make sure it says bc next to the title before buying them.

Hello. The pcb board is "married" to the motherboard with a certain firmware. If you didn't flash the new drive with the correct firmware it will not work. The best thing to do is just replace the laser if you have DVD drive problems. I hope you still have the old one! Good luck to you. Thanks!
This problem is caused by your disc drive.... A new disc drive bought off of ebay, generally costs about 50 bucks, including the shipping and handling..... You will need to open your xbox to get the model number... yes, it does matter... Once you get the new disc drive... you need to open up the old disc drive... and you will see a memory chip inside and you will need to be VERY careful not to rip any of the parts it is connected to... once you have the chip out... you will need to take the chip out of the new disc drive, and replace it with the chip from your old disc drive... (each xbox 360 has its own unique memory, which can only otherwise be installed by flashing it through a sata computer which much more complicated than it really should be).... once you put the old chip into the new disc drive... put everything back together... for a tutorial on opening an xbox 360 and also fixing disc drive in your 360... i recommend youtube,,, and the person's name i recommend is "fixyourownxbox" These videos are definitely helpful, and saved me mucho dinero $ :D.... you need to get the firmware from your original drive. Each xbox drive has a unique number in the firmware that marries the drive to the console. so dump your firmware from original drive and flash it to the new drive
You need to flash the drive with the old drive's key; otherwise the your xbox motherboard will not allow that drive to access the gameplay engine and will not allow you to play games.
well my friend thats because each xbox 360 drive is unique for each console so it only works on the original console, to solve this you have to flash the firmware from the old drive and put it the new one, there are many sites explaining it just google it.
