Take out the hard disk from your case and put it inside a desktop- if there's still some life left in it it will appear in My Computer. If it doesn't appears even there then it's dead for sure and all the data on it is lost.
The disk-drive inside the enclosure has "failed".
Open the enclosure, remove the disk-drive, and take it to any computer-store, to buy a compatible replacement. Install the replacement disk-drive.
There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files. For example, see: https://services.seagate.com/index.aspx?lng=en-US for a "no data - no charge" guarantee.
I got one with the same problem. I opened up the case and hooked up the hard drive to a generic usb to sata adapter that i picked up on ebay and it works fine now if a bit clunky looking.
I have the same problem. I have a 500 GB hard drive and my computer will see the hard drive but it won't let me open it. It says "g:\is not accesible incorrect function" I have a lot of data in my hard drive and I don't have it backed up anywhere else so I really need to be able to be able to open the drive.
