Kenmore gas dryer doesn't stay running have to hold button down.
Kenmore gas dryer. Last week I started the dryer and after 2 min it stopped running. When you push the start button and hold it dryer runs. But if you let it go, it stops. We replaced the push to start switch and it's the same thing.

If you HOLD the start button down and the drier heats and runs, then your problem is most likely a relay which is supposed to energize (close contacts), which "latches" the condition when you push the start button. The most likely cause of such a failure, is a fuse or a thermal cut out, which has prevented normal operation. For safety reasons, being a gas appliance, I would NOT ATTEMPT to fix this problem yourself, unless you have licenses to service such equipment!
This is very likely a relay problem. There is a black relay in the control head that engages when the start button is pressed. The relays tend to go bad now and then. They are a simple replacement and cost less than $15 or so.
1
Make sure the home's gas supply valve is turned on. Check
your Maytag owner's manual to find the location of the dryer's gas
shut-off valve. This is usually behind the dryer's front panel or in the
back of the unit. Open the valve to allow gas to flow into the dryer.
2
Open the lower front panel of the dryer to access the pilot
light assembly. Press and hold the starter button as you light the pilot
with a handheld lighter. If you have trouble getting it to light,
release the starter button and wait a few minutes before trying it
again. Once the pilot is lit, hold the starter button down for another
minute to make sure it will stay burning.
3
Close the dryer's front panel and run a test cycle to see if
it is producing heat. Call a repairman to evaluate the problem if
lighting the pilot did not restore the heat.
Aha!
You are going to make me guess!
I am guessing you have to hold the start button down.
So.
Try a new start button first.
If that does not fix it, replace the timer/control unit.
God bless your efforts.
The motor centrifugal switch is not switching from the start winding to the run winding. The switch should stay in the run winding when the motor picks up speed unless power to the motor is interrupted or cut off. The switch is replaceable on most dryer models but sometimes it is an integral or built-in part of the dryer motor and failure of the switch requires the replacement of the motor. Indicate the exact model number of the dryer for more accurate troubleshooting and repair advice.
I think it is probally the thermocouple not holding letting gas valve work properly, timers do not go out very often, its not getting hot enough to release the gas, valve wont let it, chheck thermocouple, let me know im not there, but its in the heat not getting hot enough
my dryer makes a funny noise about 10 to 15 min. into cycle. then shuts off. if you try to restart will not restart unless you hold start button down. once you let go will stop. wait about an hour and dryer will run for another 10- 15 min and start process over again.
your motor maybe going out. theres a switch on the motor that starts it . on most models the start switch is built into the motor. however some models the switch can be replaced by itself.
MY DRYER DOESNT RUN ON IT OWN
I PUSH THE BUTTON IT WILL RUN AND THEN STOP BY IT SELF
I have the same problem and found that it was the door latch.
