Well try to boot into the safe mode.hit F8 on the startup and see if you get the same acreen. If its working fine in safe mode than you need to reinstall the video driver and that should resolve the issue. If it is still not working try connecting a external moniter. If you get the same display on the external moniter than its an issue with the video card and if you get a normal display on that than its an issue with the Laptop screen and you would ahve to get either of thses replaced by contacting the manufacturer.
Hope this helps!

When i switch my tom tom one on, it sticks on the busy planning a route screen 'waiting for a valid gprs signal' everytime!?

it needs a hard reset,

from the off position,
hold the power down till after it starts and then goes blank, then turn it back on, it will forget all former positions and clear the ram.

Benq fp581 screen goes blank after about half a second evertime i turn on my computer.

Even thought the monitor looks blank check to see if you can see a faint image (shining a flashlight at the monitor sometimes helps). If you can see an image it could mean that the inverter board has gone bad.

I have also heard of an overheated computer causing a similar problem.

Toshiba a305-s6898 computer starts up and goes to black screen what can fix this

When it goes to the blank screen, are you able to see the icons and such , like in the background? If so then the backlight on the screen has burned out. You could replace the screen relatively easily if you're technically inclined.

Toshiba Blank Screen Help

Sounds like dead cells or dead circuitry in the battery, If the cells or circuitry in the battery are shorting across in the battery than all the voltage is being robbed to "charge it". Hopefully the voltage regulating chips on the board are not corrupt as this will cause the system to short everytime a battery is put in.
