The small transformer attached to my inverter is bad can it make the inverter not to produce power with battery?

Yes and worse, it can short out the inverter with both a low voltage hi frequency current which can cause the inverter to catch fire or a hi voltage low frequency current which will have the same effect.

STOP USING THE TRANSFORMER

It is a FIRE HAZARD when used with an inverter. Buy a new one.

As for using it with a Battery it could cause the battery to EXPLODE !

Th-42pd25 humming sound and faint picture

Sounds like an inverter transformer humming, not producing enough current to display a bright picture. Check the caps in power supply, next to the plug where it says 24v and goes to the inverter board on the left side of tv. Or check for bad connections on inverter transformers on inverter board, Thanks

Basic LCD Monitors troubleshooting guides

First if you can, try the monitor with other PC first to make sure it is not the PC problem.
Notes: We are dealing with high voltage that can kill you! so if you are not sure what you are doing, please have it fixed by the pro that has proper tools and safety equipment. Try to use GFI outlet and isolation transformer when work around the TV set and DO NOT DEFEAT THE GROUND PIN OF THE OUTLET/POWER CORD.

The monitor will have at least 2 circuits boards, one board will be the logic board where the video cable from PC is attached to, the second board used in most monitors today is the Power supply/backlight inverter board combinations. Some monitors will have separate power supply module and backlight inverter board.
The monitor should be connected to the running PC otherwise it will go into standby mode.
The operations of each board:

1) The Power supply board:
It takes the 120vac 60Hz and converts it to high voltage DC (around 160~170vdc filtered by the 80~150uf 250~450vdc cap) by the bridge rectifiers to be used by the switching power supply circuits that converts this DC voltage into high frequency (around 50~100 KHz) AC for driving the step down transformer. The outputs (usually 2 outputs) of the transformer will be rectified by the diodes to produce the regulated 5vdc for the logic board, and regulated 12~20vdc (12vdc is usually for screen up to 17inch, 16~24vdc for 18~24 inch screen).

The power supply circuits are always on (unless the monitor uses the power switch that actually disconnects the power from the outlet which is rarely used these days) which means that it is running 24/7 using the monitor or not, any spikes and surge will be fed into the monitor power supply.

Common problems:
Blown fuses, bad caps (leaking/bulging tops or bottom seals, please note that bad cap may look normal but it can have high ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance). The DC filter cap should be low ESR type for using in the switching power supply; general purpose electrolytic types will not last very long in switching power supply circuits. Poor solder joints, over heated components.

Testing:
Plug the monitor in but do not activate the power switch so the backlight inverter circuits will be off. Check the 5vdc and the 12~24vdc to make sure they are OK. They should be tested with the load, you can use 6V 1A (6watts) lamp for the 5vdc, and car lamps such as 1157 (12v 8watts lo/26watts high) turn signal brake lamp using high filament connection for testing the 12~18vdc (or use two 1157 in series for 19~24vdc) for the backlight inverter circuits.
If the power supplies are working, the output voltages should be steady at the rated voltages. The power supply will go into shut down if it detects too much current draw due to false in the power supply or short circuits in the backlight inverter or in the logic board.

2) The backlight inverter circuits:
It takes the 12~24vdc and converts it to high frequency AC to drive the inverter transformers CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) assemblies. The transformers will drive the CCFL by applying the start up voltage (around 1500~2000v), when the CCFL start conducting, the voltage will drop down to about 500~800v.
The inverter has detection circuits to detect open circuit if the lamp is not attached or does not fire up after the start up voltage is applied, it will go into shut down. It will also shut down if the lamps draw too much current due to ages (when lamp gets old it will draw more current).
The inverter gets two signals from the logic board, one is the backlight ON/OFF signal, the other one is the Dimming signal for the lamps.
Common problems:
Bad filter caps, resonant caps (in the inverter output circuits), blown transistors/IC, shorted or open transformer winding.
Testing:
You should have spare lamps for testing the inverter circuits.

3) Logic board:
The logic board get the signals from the VGA (ANALOG) or DVI (DIGITAL) and processes them and feed them to the LCD panel T-CON (Timing Controller) board on the back of the LCD panel.
It also sends out two signals (backlight ON/OFF and Dimming) to the inverter circuits when the monitor is on and getting the signals from the PC.
If the logic board does not get the signal from the PC, it will put monitor into standby mode.
The 5vdc feeding it is converted to 3.3v, 1.8vdc by the switching buck converters to run the processor.
The logic board also sends the 5vd or 12vdc power for the T-CON board, if the voltage is not there, you will see white/grey glowing screen only.
Not much repair you can do on the logic board unless you have the full service manual and surface mount repair station.

4) CCFL and Inverter circuits testing:
If you don not have the inverter and lamp tester boxes you may be able to do a simple test by using these steps:
If the screen flashes on for a second, you can disconnect all the lamp connectors and connect it into one of the transformer output connector and see if you will see the flash on the screen, if you do, then try it with another transformer output connector to see if it also get the flash on the screen.
Repeat the procedure with other 3 lamps. If all the lamps do flash on for seconds then more likely the lamps are OK. If lamp only flash on one of the transformer output then you will know that the problem in that transformer inverter circuits.
If none of the lamps flash at all then the problem is in the inverter circuits, power supply, or not getting the on signal from the logic board.

Tv flickers off and on

Hi,
You have to check the back light inverter of your lcd tv. In all lcd tvs there are back lights to illuminate the pixels. There are two types of back lighting in use . CCFL ( cold cathode fluorescent lamp) and LED (light emitting diode). In you your tv it will be CCFL. If it is CCFL then it need an inverter (voltage step up circuit) for getting its working voltages. Normally it will produce above 1000V in low current. In the inverter circuit there will be inverter transformers. If the winding of the transformer get shorted then the inverter will drain a high current from the power supply. If so then the current sensing circuit senses the same and it will shut down the power supply. That's why it do the cycle ON an OFF repeatedly.
Just check the inverter board. Normally there will be three circuit boards in LCD TV. Mother board, SMPS (switch mode power supply) and inverter board. In some tvs the SMPS and inverter bord will com-pained as one board. you have to check the inverter transformers. there will be 4 or 6 inverter transformers. if available replace the inverter board as a whole.
Also check the electrolytic capacitors in the power supply. if any of the capacitor seems like one that in the picture, then replace the same and then only go for the inverter board

I'm dumb. Can I hook an inverater to my generator and produce more enegry than my generator produces???

Please understand that the generator produces power from fuel with an engine wheras the invertor is one which genrerates power from a stored battery using the principle of frequency switching a DC source to induct and produce AC.
Now you can have an uninterupted power supply setting with the invertor backed up by the generator so that when the battery voltage goes down you can start and charge the invertor and also supply the extra energy .
the ratings of both must also be considered.

Appears to not be charging but does produce 110

Anytime external AC is being applied, the unit passes that AC input through to the output, independent of inverter/charger status. If external AC power is available but the unit is not charging (i.e. the Charge light is lit, but the batteries are not charging up as they should), then there is likely a problem with the AC sensing circuit card inside the unit, with a 1/4 amp fuse and/or the AC transformer the most probably culprits. Without external AC, the inverter will function all the way down to 10V, but then will shut off, so as long as your batteries have not been totally depleted,the unit will still be able to produce 110 AC after a brief charge cycle, but it won't for long.

I have small portable generator with 220 vac in the philippines and a 12amp 12 v ac to dc converter. can i connect my 1000 w inverter to produce 120 vac becouse i dont have the batteries yet to run the...

no these are made to run off a batteries the 12 volt supplied from the gen is for charging batteries only and if the engine for starting the gen set has a battery their usual to small to run then their made for car style batterers.

After three seconds power it on the back light goes off. At this point if the display is turned off and on again, the image gets back and gets dark again after three seconds

There seems to be bad solder connections either on the power supply or the inverter Board. You may even have a bad capacitor on the power supply board. When caps go bad sometimes the yswell at the top of them, if you take off the back cover look for swollen capacitors in the power supply. The inverter board has small inverter transformers on it, check for bad connections on it, caution tho this board has high voltage on it. One good way to check the inverter board is while you have the back off. Darken the room as much as possible, even total darkness is good and turn on the monitor while looking at the inverter board for small arching or sparks, if you see any then this is your problem area.

Bad battery in old pachinko game

Open up the machine, look inside near the battery area, there should be a label stating the needed DC voltage of the game. Usually, its 6v. You will need a power adapter transformer, such as Radio Shack universal AC adapter 273-1650. This transformer can adjust power from 3v-9v if needed. Newer machines might need a larger transformer that can produce more amps. This will get you started. When you buy the transformer, have the sales person mark the + and - wires using a meter, should you not have one at home. You might also need to buy wire to connect the transformer to the machine, if the machine is not close to an electrical socket. Add wire if needed, observe polarity. Disconnect the + of the battery and attach + of the transformer to the wiring of the machine, use wirenuts if handy, or electrical tape to seal connections. Now do the same to the - side. (remove battery from machine) Plug in and test. HAVE FUN! :0)

Tv keep going on standby when you turn it on

tv goes into standby all the time if a power supply is not fine, what happens is that a power supply produces two voltages, one small one powers a standby components and bigger voltage powers a line transformer which later produces more small voltages,
then later cancels the first small voltage.

chec your power supply semi conductors like, transistors, diodes and small value resistors, on your power supply. some power supply uses a IC to oscillate a ht. so check a supply at a w/shop.
