There is no picture on the screen but it turns on and the screen flashes but nothing else.

You probably turned off the flash. Press the 4 way lever on the back of the camera to the right to turn it back on again.

I would replace the bulb.Sounds like it maybe bad,I would try to reseat the bulb then if that doesn't work then replace it.Do any of the power buttons flash when you turn it on?

make sure batteries are ok, sounds like it is not in sync.

I have a sony cybershot DSC-S650, the LCD was very dark and could not see anything except if I pointed it at a bright object, everything else worked ok. I could take pictures but could barely see them in playback as well.

I took it to Sony authorised repair outlet and was told the CCD was damaged, they charged me USD $55 to repair it (in Quito, Ecuador)

Try connecting an external monitor - if you get a picture then the laptop screen may be faulty or turned off.

CCD malfunction, common with Sony manufactured CCD chips. You are in luck, its a free repair regardless of warranty date.

Change the bateries. Replace it with new acc.
