whining noise, replaced bulb, no effect. appears to be fan. need manuals to find where fan is. read a lot about color wheels. This is a DLP. I didn't know color wheels were involved.

HLS4266W 43" dlp. In less than 1 yr whining grew worse, but did know what it was. Year passed with warranty and lamp went out. Replaced lamp. Worked for 3.5 hrs. Turned on next day and did not work. Got another lamp, but did not work. Figured out might be color wheel. Replaced it too. TV started up. Watched that night. Turned on next day, heard loud pop. Lamp never came on. Withdrew and reinstalled lamp a couple times to see if that worked. Did not. Currently, with new lamp and color wheel installed, lamp light blinks, but no lamp comes on. What now?

Google your model number; I suspect it is a bad color wheel--lots of these sets have a fan like noise or even a grinding sound sometimes called a high pitched whine.

The part can be customer replaceable and YOUTube has actual video instructions for its replacement.

Hi,If your tv is a dlp you might be experimenting a color wheel problem. The color wheel is a rotating disc that has a gamma of colors it spins at high rpms. The light of the lamp goes through it to create the colors on your tv.When it starts to go bad you will get color distortion ,black and white picture and sometimes you will hear humming noises. Here's the instructions to replace it http://www.fixyourdlp.com/guides/samsung/bp96-01579a.php and your part # is BP96-01103A Have a bless one!

THE FAN STARTED WHINING AND NOW THE LAMP WARNING LIGHT IS ON AND IT WONT TURN ON. IS THE FAN A PART I CAN REPLACE MYSELF?

It's not likely the fan - it is more likely the color wheel making that noise and causing your set to shut down. See link for more info

Whining noise

Color wheel is going or gone out. New colorwheels are air bearing and not mechanical.

Samsung HLN567W DLP whining problem

If it is the bottom front, it is the color wheel. To tell for sure, take the back off (fake out the cover switch) and listen to the fans.

Whining Noise - hardrive or fan?

The color wheel is the most common problem when it comes to noise from DLP's. To determine if it is a color wheel or fan: Turn on the set. When the noise starts, turn off the set. If the noise goes away within 5 seconds, then the color wheel is bad. If the noise goes away after one to one and a half minutes after the set was shut off, then one of the fans are making the noise.
