Download servicepack 3.
Be sure not to have Norton installed.
If so use special Norton removal from symantec.
Never use Norton with SP3. Get Avast for instance.

I want to know on how to uninstall IE8 on my computer i am running a windows XP service pack 3. I just want to install a fresh copy of IE8 . . . . .

Hi josephc_agni,

You cannot uninstall Internet Explorer 8 if it is set as not removable. This occurs if you install Internet Explorer 8 before you install Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Windows XP. If this scenario applies to you, then you must uninstall SP3 before you can uninstall Internet Explorer 8.

To uninstall Internet Explorer 8, follow these steps:
  1. Close all programs.
  2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Click Add or Remove Programs.
  4. In the list of currently installed programs, click Windows Internet Explorer 8, and then click Remove.

NOTE: If Windows Internet Explorer 8 does not appear in the list of installed updates, try the alternative step given below.
  5. Follow the instructions to uninstall Internet Explorer 8.
  6. When the uninstall program is finished, restart your computer.
ALTERNATIVE STEP:

To uninstall Internet Explorer 8, follow these steps:
  1. Carefully select and then copy the following command: %windir%\ie8\spuninst\spuninst.exe
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type Cmd.exe, and then press ENTER.
  4. Right-click inside the Cmd.exe window, and then click Paste to paste the command that you copied in step 1.
  5. Press ENTER to uninstall Internet Explorer 8.
  6. When the uninstall program is finished, restart your computer.

How to configure FTP server in windows xp prof ?

Setting up an FTP site Using Windows XP Professional Windows XP professional (as well as Windows 2000) includes Microsoft's IIS (Internet Information Server) which can be used to create an FTP site on your computer. It's a fair bit less complicated and less flexible than using some third-party FTP server software packages, so we will give you guides for setting up both. If you are using XP Home you will need to use third-party software. There is no way to publish an FTP site with the Home Edition of XP.
The first step is to check that IIS (Internet Information Services, Microsoft's web-server application) is configured properly.
Go to start\'control panel'\'add/remove programs'\ choose the 'add/remove windows components' button from the bar on the left. Highlight the item 'Internet information services (IIS)' If it is unchecked, check it, then click 'details.'
ftparticle_2.gif

The components you will need are: 'common files,' 'file transfer protocol (FTP) service' and 'internet information services snap-in.' Uncheck any others then click next. IIS will configure itself, and you may be prompted for the XP CD.
