As technology
evolves, Sony continually looks to stand behind the reliability of its
televisions. It has come to our attention that a very limited number of
televisions manufactured between 2003-2005, after a period of time
exhibit a stationary scribble / random line pattern on the screen.

As
part of our commitment to quality, Sony is announcing that for any
owner of this model television who paid out-of pocket expenses on or
before May 26, 2006 for an estimate or repair service to replace the
optical block for this specific issue, Sony will reimburse the customer
by mail for his/her parts and labor expenses. To receive reimbursement,
please follow completely the directions and terms on the
claim form for reimbursement; all claims must be postmarked by May 31, 2007.
In
addition, for any customer who later experiences this issue on one of
the affected models, Sony will cover the cost of the optical block
repair at no charge through September 30, 2007. All other terms of the
Sony limited warranty continue to apply.
My WEGA KF50WE610 is being serviced by Consumer Electronics, the Sony authorized repair center. It has been diagnosed with a faulty optical block. Consumer Electronics stated that Sony is refusing to cover the replacement of the Optical Block, even though they are replacing the identical part in other models.
I am hereby requesting that Sony cover the full replacement cost of the faulty part, in as much as it has been determined and admitted to have been defectively produced in the first place. I understand that Sony has extended warranty (parts and labor) for optical block replacements on certain models until October 31, 2008, regardless of purchase date. Why would my model not be included?
My sony KDF60XBR950 being diagnosed with faulty optical block tv was purchased aug. 04 I understand sony is replacing this part on other models .if the optical block is faulty why sony is not replacing on all models
I have a sony 60xbr950 with no picture/sound and 6 blinking red lights
bought it in dec 2004. is this due to optical block as well or is it something else.
My WEGA 60" picture gradually took on too much Yellow. Really shows on a gray raster screen (off channel). Set is under extended warranty plus Technician said Sony is covering the part (Optical Block). Volla! New block installed and great picture. OOPS, 30-minutes and a "pop" and now a pink and blue - faded picture. Another hour or so of pink and "POP!" Now a beautiful picture again. This repeats over and over - sometimes a good picture all day then next day turn on to find pink and blue. Technician is ordering another optical block from Sony. Sure glad I bought the long extended warranty. Guess the block can fail for different colors. Some failures reds and blues, some produce yellows and greens. Sure wish Sony would redesign and fix the OB problem once and for all. My 25" RCA Console (CRT TV) is still going and going after 25 years of not a single problem. All I do is pull the back and clean it about every third year. Yes I do electrons for a living. I would install the block myself if they would supply it to me. Not a chance. We'll see how long the next one lasts.
