Search on the internet for how to replace ne552 keyboard (or similar). You my find quite a number of nearly relevant instructional videos and step-by-step instructions, referring to slightly different models..Look at a few and see how similar they are, pick one and follow it eg

What you really need is the maintenance & service manual, but there doesn't seem to be one. You might try contacting Gateway support and asking.
Keyboards for your model are readily available, on ebay or from commercial parts suppliers, even Gateway

its more than likely the inverter went out. i suggest opening the bezel around the screen and get the part number off the old inverter. then check eBay for the replacement. should be no more than $10

Gateway ne522 series laptop is stuck on reverting changes
you need to repair windows before updating again,for now you can force shutdown then boot in safe mode and delete the current updates to stop the updating

Just bought a Gateway ne522 series , and internet explorer keeps closing . As soon as I click on it to open it, it immediately closes and wont recover .
Go to the control panel, open your list of programs. Click view installed updates on the left. Allow a few seconds for the list to update, then scroll down until you see Windows Internet Explorer #, (# = 9 or 10 typically). Select it, then click uninstall. When the installation completes you will be required to reboot. After reboot, Internet Explorer will revert back to the previous version. Test and let us know.

Light on gateway keyboard kb-0817 where is it or
There are no lights are the less expensive keyboards that are shipped with many Gateway computers. They have a more expensive keyboard that does have lights. Suggest you get that one or some other keyboard with lights already included.

External keyboard messing up Gateway settings
You have to unlock the FN key on your keyboard. It seems to be locked in place. I had the same problem and resolved it by looking for a "num lock" , "function lock" or actual blue image of a lock on the keys. Mine is located under the "Scroll" button. Press this along with the FN and your keyboard should go back to normal
