How do i format my computer without losing the drivers?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

can't be done... when you format a computer you are basically erasing the drive of all the data on it. your best bet would be to download all the drivers you need before you format... put them on a usb stick.... after you format and reinstall xp... plug in the usb stick and reinstall your drivers.

Try this type of application to backup all the drivers in your existing Windows to a USB drive. (Portable version is best for this type of operations)
Portable Driver Genius

Beware that drivers backed up may have a missing character in the front of the folder name.
The best way is download the latest drivers version from your PC vendor or the motherboard's manufacturer before formatting your XP.

My samsung 1TB hard drive wont show in my computer it only light the blue light without even appearing in the machine

Your drive may be formatted in an unreadable format for your operating system or may not be formatted at all. Assuming you are using Windows, open the application Disk Management and see if the drive shows up there. (To do that, you can right click on My Computer and click Manage) From there, you can troubleshoot and format the drive. Be aware, however, that formatting a drive means you will lose all data currently saved on it.

Can i format sata hdd without loseing my files

partition magic may do it, but chances are not. in order to change a filesystem, you have to erase all data to avoid compatibility issues. some file systems have file size limits or even file name character limits and doing a format without erasing the data can corrupt the drive to the point where the data is unable to be recovered. I always recommend backing up data first and would never even try a format without backing it up.

Memory card formatting

Unfortunately, there is no way to format your card without losing any saved pictures. Sometimes, if you insert your card into other cameras or printing kiosks at walgreens or target, it will work. it's a long shot though. Chances are, you may have to lose your saved pictures :(

Firelite wont mount on my computer

look at its format, (NTFS) or (FAT32)? and check the DRIVER for the hdd to see if it has any complications or errors, this is easyest fixed by deleting the HDD driver in Device managment and then restarting the computer. good luck.
