I can't get the full screen on some hd channels and during commercials. It goes from full screen viewing on some channels to the picture shrinking and having a border around it.

There are a few picture sizes out there 4:3, 16:9, as well as some for movie screens. New televisions are 16:9 and when you are watching a true HD program, it will fill the screen perfectly. However the program may be broadcast in one of the other formats. This results in the bars on top/ bottom or on the sides. This is true for commercials too. If the commercial is or isn't in HD will determine if there are bars or not. All this is normal operation.

I re-scanned my channels this weekend because I lost HD on 2 of my local channels. Now I have HD back, but I have 2 black lines on each side the picture on all of the HD channels. How do I get rid of the...

A broadcaster will transmit an HD channel in 1 format. This may be 720p or 1080i, both of which are HDTV formats. HDTV formats have an aspect ratio of 16:9. SDTV or standard definition broadcast have an aspect ratio of 4:3. Because not all content is record in an HD format (ex: Judy Judy), the broadcast is faced with 2 options. #1, stretch the 4:3 picture do that it fills the 16:9 canvas. #2, simple place black side bars on each side of the 4:3 image. What you are seeing is the latter of the 2 options. You will notice a change during the evening programming. The bars are only there when the content is not HD. You can use the WIDE feature of your TV to stretch the picture so that it fills the screen, just like broadcaster option #1 above.

My flat screen hd sharp aquos color turns green when we are watching it. it is only 3 three years old. what can this be? thanks

I'm not sure if this is the same, but people were green no matter how i adjusted the tint, and lacked overall color. I doubled checked the component cables, taking each one out, and putting it back firmly,
Picture is back to normal. Easy fix.

AVC HD 709 calibration disk
Spyder2 colorimeter (I know most prefer the Eye-One meters, but the Spyder2 was available from my job at no cost)

Here are the settings:

PS3 Blu-Ray player

Output Format (HDMI): Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr (important!!! NOT RGB output)
BD 1080p 24hz Output (HDMI): On (this TV can reproduce video at 48hz for accurate 2:2 pulldown)
Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr Super White (HDMI): On (not sure if this matters)

Take time to get used to the settings, you may think the screen looks dull at first. The truth is most people have way too much contrast on their TVs.
These settings will also work for Cable or Dish hookups, in which case you may change the Noise Reduction option to Medium to reduce signal noise.
