I have a set of Bose 901 Series VI speakers and equalizer hooked up to my Marantz 2270 receiver in the conventional way, using the tape monitor. I recently purchased a pair of Bose 701s and they, too, sound great. I can't play the two sets together, the equalizer is messing up he sound coming out of the 701s and I have tp slide the controls all the way to the left to make them sound right without totally rewiring everything to take out the equalizer. I have read that I need to get another amp to isolate the 901s and the equalizer and keep the 701s separate. Please excuse my lack of electronics/stereo understanding, but, there is no way to set up the Marantz 2270 using the Pre in/ Main out that I'm not using to isolate the 901's/equalizer to that set of speakers?

SOURCE: Bose 901 v1 adding a amplifier

You may connect an additional amplifier to the Rec Out or Line Out from your existing receiver.
Please note the Bose 901 equalizer can be used to connect to one amplifier only.

Do let me know if you have any further questions.

SOURCE: Bose 901 series speakers to Bose 901 Equalizer

There is no direct connection between the 901's and their Active Equalizer. It is designed to be inserted between the source and the DEDICATED amplifier driving the speakers. Typically, this would be in a Tape Monitor loop on a receiver.

Tape Rec/Out to EQ In; EQ Out to Tape Play/In on the receiver. If you have a tape deck(s), it(they) would go into the back of the Bose EQ as if it was the receiver and you would use the Tape and 1/2 buttons for selection.

Or,if you have access to any other point that doesn't use the Tape Monitor, like a Pre Out/Main In jumper set, place the Equalizer there. That way it's always in front of the speakers and doesn't take up the Tape Mon.

Flip in the Tape Monitor and leave it on or the speakers will not receive the essential ACTIVE Equalization they require for proper frequency response. DO NOT place non-901's onto any amp using the Active EQ.

Like any speakers, the 901's will attach to the speaker terminals in the conventional manner.

SOURCE: bose 901 equalizer hookup

I had the same problem- I have a Pioneer VSX-518 and Bose 901 series IV. My receiver has no "Tape Monitor", so after trying different hook ups, I went and bought a "3 input video switcher" (about $10.00) I run my STB (cable box), my PS3 and my computer through the inputs of the switcher (just the audio L/R) then the output to the Bose EQ input, then from the Bose EQ output to my receiver input (I chose to use the TV/DVR input). Now I just have to select which source I want to listen to from the switch, make sure the receiver is set to TV/DVR and I have fantastic sound via my Bose 901s. With this hookup, I have my 3 componets video connected to my HDTV via HDMI cable. It works for me. Hope this helps.

How can i hook-up a 901 series vi equalizer to a str-de897?

I own 901's(since new) with the active equalizer powered with a non-Sony surround sound receiver.

Basically, you use the MD/Tape in/out jacks to route the signal to the Bose active equalizer. Switch the Tape Monitor switch if no sound is heard.

Here are some references.
https://docs.sony.com/release/STRDE897.pdf http://products.bose.com/pdf/customer_service/owners/901_guide.pdf

Connect equalizer cables (4 total) to the MD/TAPE section of your receiver. OUT from the receiver to the equalizer IN and Out from the equalizer to IN on the receiver.

One issue with the equalizer running through the MD/Tape jacks is that it may affect any other speakers hooked up to your system.

If your system is equipped with a tape monitor loop, you can switch the EQ out of the circuit by disengaging the tape monitor switch. If the EQ is connected to the pre-out / main-in jumper, you would have to defeat the EQ before you hook up a conventional speaker. I don't believe the EQ has a defeat switch - you'd have to rig a bypass.

Once defeated, if you have a system equipped with a Speaker A / Speaker B selector, the smaller speakers could hook up to the second system. If that's not possible, speaker switches are available for reasonable money. It is very important, though, that the 901 EQ i defeated when using conventional loudspeakers.

I have four bose 901 speakers and one equalizer. I also have a peavy deca 424 amplifier. I have a tape deck with the tape monitor capabilitity. Can these work together and how do I hook theme up?

The presence of 1/4" TRS balanced phone jacks instead of RCA inputs is a problem; and the 1/4" TRS speaker output jacks, too. You'll need to acquire cables with compatible ends.

The amp can handle 4-ohm loads so running two 901's parallel on each channel would theoretically work, but I'd put them in series just to keep from presenting too low a load when you get cranking. At 230 wpc you've got the juice. From Series 4 on the 901's are very efficient.

The Tape Deck will attach conventionally to the Tape Loop on the Active Equalizer.

Once you get the physical wiring compatibility issues worked out:

Patch the Active EQ directly between any source you may be using (Amp In from the Pre-Out of the source, Amp Out to the Peavey input).

You can record the external source onto the attached Tape Deck and you can monitor it by pressing the Tape switch on the 901 EQ.

Start out at low volume and see how it works before turning it loose.

`Which ampliphier is compatible for my Bose 901 series 6 with equilazer.

Ideally, an amplifier or receiver should have either a "Tape Monitor" selector switch and Tape Input & Tape Output jacks, OR have Preamp Output & Amp Input jacks to enable insertion of the Bose Active equalizer into the circuit before the amplifier stage. Power requirements - according to the 901 Series VI manual:

"Your 901 speakers are designed to work compatibly with receivers or amplifiers rated from
10 to 450 watts per channel."

If you have questions not answered by the manual, you can contact customer service at The Bose Corporation in Framingham, MASS toll free at:

Connecting Bose 901 Series VI Direct Reflecting Speakers to JVC RX-8020VBK Receiver

in order to make those speakers sound good (if they can sound good at all) you need to use equalizer box witch came with them. If your receiver does not have tape monitor loop or preamp to amp jumpers you can not use those speakers. To be honest you do not loose much... none of this stuff is any good (sorry for bad news), but if you like those speakers (I know they have big fans, even if in HI-FI world, they not consider as good) you have to change you receiver.
