My Toshiba Satellite A-205-S4607 camera does not turn on. There is no preview.  Camera toolbar is there.  When the start camera button is pressed a small blank window opens.  But there is no picture or preview.  I used to see myself in the preview window.  Not so now.

I don't think it is your hard drive but here is what you could do:
Press F8 at start up to enter start options, choose safe mode with networking or last known good configuration.
Use the built in system recovery, press F11 or F12 at start up to enter recovery partition.
Use a set of recovery disc to do a system repair or to install new original operating system.
Order the recovery disc set from the website by model and serial number.

There are several ways you can use the camera on your toshiba laptop.
1.) Use a program such as Skype or Windows Messenger; these programs will only use your web camera when you video chat with someone else over the internet.
2.) Alternatively, most Toshiba laptops come with a built in program that you can use to activate the web camera, and you may even be able to record videos and take pictures. This program is usually found in a toolbar on the side of your screen. To use it, move your mouse cursor to the left side of your screen, and something should pop out. The camera can be activated from there.
3.) If this does not work, clicking on the start button (the circular windows logo found in the bottom left corner of the screen) and typing in camera should bring up a program called 'camera assistant.' Clicking on this should also start up the camera software.

1. Turn on computer by Holding down power button while pressing the ESC key.
The machine will beep, then display:
Check System, then press [F1] key.
2. Release ESC key
3. Press F1 key

Your Lcd is failing and you will need to replace it

There is a Fn button located at the bottom left corner of your keyboard.......press this along with the F6 key to switch your camera on and off.

have you knocked the laptop at all?
you may have disconnected it by accident. probably not but its possible. if you have a accidental coverage then you're fine.or house insurance which covers it.

Try pressing the Fn key followed by one of the F keys (numbered 1-12) on your keyboard.

Sounds like you accidentally pressed the DISP button on the back (it manually turns the LCD screen on and off to save batteries). Turn the camera on and press the DISP button once. Hopefully that should fix it.
