Question about Whirlpool Calypso GVW9959K Top Load Washer

Calypso - water goes straight to drain hose-not drum

After my Whirlpool Calypso (5 years old) tripped the breaker - the water will go into the washer and then straight out the drain hose. The washer drum never gets the water -it does not fill up. It will continue running into the drain hose as long as I will let it run. The drain hose is all proper - height, air, etc. The washer has not been moved in 3 years. The only factor is - I washed some new bathroom rugs - it got out of balance and stopped (tripping the breaker?). Everything seems to be just fine - except the drum won't fill. Is there anything I can do - reset button, cleaning out a filter or something???? Any help is MOST appreciated! Thank you!

Thanks,I did try that already....there was a small amount of water that did blow out - but it still runs water straight to the drain hose. I am a single mom and trying to save the money from a technician's visit...so if there are any of you handymen out there that could offer a "fairly mechanical" mom some help....I would greatly appreciate it!!!

The hose may still be filled from last cycle. try to put machine in final spin mode where all water from previous wash will be spun out the drain hose. once a siphon is started it can only be stopped by introducing air into the drain hose.

make sure the drain hose on outside of machine did not get moved recently. If it is sitting at a lower level than when first installed, this could introduce continuous siphoning to drain.

Fl code on kenmore calypso cannot clear

this is the fl code on a whirlpool calypso which is probably the same since kenmore is just a name,, whirlpool built the machine if u didnt know kenmore doesnt build anything they just put their name on things... (FL is a flood conditon.) FL flashes if any overfill condition occurs. This condition occurs when excessive water in the tub causes the overfill switch to trip. The control must realize that the trip was due to an overfill condition instead of a suds lack condition in order for FL to be displayed

With an overfill condition, the beeper repeats a warning every 10 seconds with no time-out. The pump is cycled in drain mode for 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off until the overfill switch resets or power is discontinued to the unit.

Press STOP/CANCEL to clear the display.

Won't fillCalypso whirlpool washer model#GVW9959KQ1 LD on display

LD is long drain error, the machine does not fill because it is in fault mode, but error is on drain system.

If there is a drain problem, the parts that must be checked are drain hose, pressure switch, drain pump assembly, timer control.

Check if the drain hose at the back is kinked or blocked.

Test the pressure switch, blow into the small hose, and use a multimeter to check if switch has continuity.

Remove access panel and get to the drain pump hose to check for ablockage. You will need to disconnect the hose and collect the water.

Keep a container ready to collect water when you undo pump hose.

Ifall the rest is OK, test and eventually replace timer board.Problemwith water pump are far more commonly causing this problemsthenfaulty timer board.

LD flashing

Hi,

Hello,

"Ld" flashes if it takes longer than 5 minutes to pump out water to a point where the operating pressure switch resets.

Press STOP/CANCEL to clear the display.

Usual causes are easy to check:
1. Unplug the washer and clean the pump strainer. It is located between the drum and the pump, and will be attached to the drum with a rubber hose.
2. Dump your drain hose into a bucket to remove any build-up in the drain hose. If possible, run an empty load, with the drain hose pointed outside.

Best regards, --W/D--

THE CODE LD IS SHOWING UP AND WASHER IS NOT OPERATING

Press stop, cancel twice to reset. The Ld error is when it takes longer than 5 minutes for the washer to drain and reset the sensor. You probably have a partially plugged strainer or drain line. To check the strainer, remove the kick panel at the front bottom of the machine. The strainer is ibetween the drum and the pump, being connected to the drum with a rubber hose. Open the strainer (caution, water!), and clean. If you did not find much in the strainer, clean the drain hose. Dump the contents of the drain hose into a bucket. If possible, run an empty losd with dth drain line pointed outside.
This should fix your issue!

Water pump out??

The washer filled with too much water, causing a switch to trip. Then everything stops. It tries to drain during FL but if it can't drain, the washer powers down.Choose Drain & Spin to let the washer drain. Then you have to take the washer apart. Fix the problem. I personally can't tell you what to do because I don't own a Calypso.

POSSIBLE CAUSES:
Bad Pump
High Water Flow

How do I remove a small part of ziper

You go buy a magnetic or three hook flexible retriever from your hardware store and go fishing down the side.

Or if the zipper is floating about loose you take the back off the machine after dumping the outlet hose into a bucket to drain off the water.

Tip the machine forward or backward so that the outlet hose from the drum to the pump is as near to the ground as possible then remove the clip retaining it to the outer drum and your zipper should be within grabbing distance.

Make sure you have an old towel underneath the hose before you crack the joint

Calypso washer - LD Code - clothes still wet

harborstuff,
The code on your machine stands for 'Long Drain'. Ld flashes if it takes longer than 5 minutes to pump out water to a point where the operating pressure switch resets. I would bet that the bath mats left a bunch of stuff stuck in the recirculation pump hose, or pump itself, and the water cannot be drained fast enough. Check the intake and exit hoses of the recirc pump. It's easiest to get to the pump through the front panel of the machine(click here). Looks like this: click here. Hope this helps.
(Definitely get under there and check to make sure the pump hoses are not clogged. At $129 it's an expensive fix for a $10 bath mat that clogged up the hose with fuzz. 'know what I'm sayin'' :o) )

BTW, I have the maintenance manual & have experience at replacing the recirc. pump, control board, motor board, touchpad, & lid switch so far.

FL code on a Kenmore Calypso top loader

The FL error code means:
Flood Condition:

Press STOP/CANCEL to clear the display.

This problem I see on these are the water pumps getting clogged with lint or other things, causing the pump not to pump all of the water out at times.

There is a check "valve" in the drain assembly that seems to sometimes cause problems with the FL error code. You can remove this piece, and might avoid changing the pump.
