The most likley cause for patio heaters that light but go out when turned up is a worn thermocouple. These are consumable items that need changing when the patio heaters fails to light. Found this site very useful: patio heater problem solving
Hi, All patio heaters are not the same, the thermocouple can be wired up in several different ways. If you have a branded BFX750 or BFX770 patio heater it is a simple task but for a Bluerhino heater you will need to ask the supplier for instructions.
First check the gas, connect the regulator to the cylinder but unclip the hose and do not light the heater. Turn the gas on for a second to see if the regulator is working OK. Next make sure there are no blockages in the pipes up to the burner. If all clear then vent the pipes to clear all air. If still not getting any gas the problem could be a faulty tilt switch cutting the gas supply or a worn thermocouple. Short out the tilt switch to test and if not fixed then change the thermocouple. If the heater is a few years old the first consumable part to go is a thermocouple, these are easy to change and when worn will stop the pilot from lighting. If that does not fix it take a look at patio heater porblem solving page which I found very useful.
You need to replace the Thermocouple. Endless Summer Patio Heaters are manufactured by Uniflame, which is owned by Blue Rhino. You can order the Thermocouple direct ly from either company. Just make sure you have your Model Number handy.
I'm told by Charmglow that the problem is the Thermocouple. iHowever,it took me several calls to get someone to admit this. They are sending a new thermocoupler. My heater is less than a year old and under warranty--but it's a shame things like this happen.
Originally I was told it could'nt be the thermocoupler as they normally last at least 5 years.
