Check the vertcle yoke pins for solder cracks. Check verticle output circuitry resistors and transistors. And also check for Coolant leaks from the CRTs this happens alot. Check capacitors for any signs of sweeling or heat as well.

Acer Aspire ,5535 black screen,on/off button ok,...insert dvd searching??power light on, batt charging light on,fan on..where to go next

ok, 10 year old laptop
step1 , as always remove the old dead shorted huge battery first.
run now? it will on AC for every if you want.
Led Glowing tell not much its just and LED, so dont look at them if on, unless and LED blinks codes. ok?
what matters is power, power is first. no power no joy, ever.
so out the battery now.
Put in a new RTC coin cell battery next 7 year life rated you are 3 years past that at 10 years old, (end of useful life that)
next is fans, , ok fan is on.
next is what, TEXT got TEXT ON SCREEN>? ANY THING??
I guess ZERO SCREEN anything of any kind>.
we next use a flash light, this PC has crummy , CCFL back lamp tubes that when dead screen goes, dead, as most have this old.
only few never used laptops last 10 years old.
so with the flash light (dark room) at an angle shin the LCD
see data, now on the screen, yes, that is a DEAD CCLF.
on ebay you see them selling new CCLF screens for this PC.

my bet the CCFL are dead. as most are this old.
All laps this old fail in this order,
BIG battery goes bad or shorts.
COIN cell dead.
CCLF dead ( ended about year 2010 , LED back lamps began)
HDD dead at 5 to 10 years old.

this is all Expected. all from carbon14 dating a PC, I can say that.
yours is 2008 made.

Good Day, qfd333;
To find suspected liquid the PCB's, remove the front speaker cover and the small board held on by 5-6 screws. Look at the first 3 to 5" on the PCB. Use bright light it's not always easy to see. If fluid is spotted remove the boards from the back of TV. Use small brush, like old tooth brush, and acetone. You can get acetone from hardware stores
Look for rusted wires or parts and replace as necessary.
Good Luck, big IRISH.

TV screen jumps and rolls, sometimes won't stay on

Try Re-soldering the vertical yoke connection and the vertical output IC. Thats a common problem in that model.
