Question about Panasonic TH-50PHD7UY 50 in. HD-Ready Plasma Television

Open Question

Picture warm-up Picture starts off with lines on portion of screen (sometimes half) and then warms up in 5-10 minutes. Started after about 7 years old. Would this be a plasma screen problem or a tivo problem?

I have the same problem and my Panasonic Plasma is about 7 yrs old as well. Model TH-50PHD3. It started with just a slight warm up problem which became a 10-15min warm up problem. After it warms up it function perfectly fine. I contacted the local Panaspnic service center and they wanted $250 just to look at it (assuming I bring it in) if they have to come pick it up add $150 ($400) just to get it diagnosed! I feel this is a rip-off, but feel I am between a rock and a hard place. I tried to contact Panasonic directly and they send me back to the local service centers. It appears to be a power supply issue.

Hello, I have the same problem as well. Mine is a Daewoo 42" Model #42SM and mine starts off with a lines all over the TV. After the warm-up period (10-15 mins) the lines go away. Any thoughts?

SOURCE: Panasonic TH-42PX60U PLasma - 1/2 screen blacked out

If the screen split is exactly 50/50 top/bottom You are not getting SU or Scan Upper drive.
These are lovely set to work on.
Most likely is SU board itself - Not repairable just to be replaced.
Sorry I work in the UK so I can only guide that the UK part is around £30
SU may have been damaged by failure if the PDP (Plasma Display Panel) but is 9 years only had 2 screens damage the SU board.
There are several setups to do after fitting a PDP. If you don't have the service data - Do not risk it, Reduced life of the Panel and a safety risk.

White horizontal lines covering picture on Toshiba 51HC85

The set uses a Hyper board inside that processes all signals, it is well known for this issue, board no longer available=reason is quite simple : about a dozen tiny surface mounted filter caps on that board with age dry out, at first it will work after warms up as poor caps regain some capacitance and seem to be ok.

Buy a new set, you can send that board out and have it repaired/rebuilt but the last one I saw which was under extended warranty cost about 200 just for the board rebuild.

In the last 4 years Here on Fixya I have encountered only 2 people who were able with instructions had the skill to remove the board and replace those caps, both were top notch computer repair techs.

Calapsed picture frame

Hi there,

This can only be a bad soldered on the video module, its better to check for any bad soldered and for any fault on the resistor on the video output module.

Hope this initial info / idea helps.

Please Accept my solution if I solved the issue.
