Some high end speakers have a fuse to protect the tweeter (treble). Reverse the speakers. Does the problem follow the suspected speaker? If so, the defect is most likely on the crossover inside the speaker.

What do you mean by best place to locate parts?

I have a samsung LHB655NW surround sound system. The four corner speakers are double units with one above the other.the top ones work but no sound comes out of the lower ones.

If you are talking about the driver cones in each of the units, then it's odd that they should have gone, unless they have driven too hard or damaged (say by a child poking them). Double unit speakers have a crossover built into that separates the sound into treble and midrange or bass.
If the sound coming out is "treble" the high frequency that shows the bass units are not working.
Make certain all the wiring is good to the speakers and if you can see the bass speaker check it is not damaged.
If you need to, go inside the units and connect a 1.5 battery across each speaker terminal for a second. If it "pops" then it's working.

How to set up a sony ht-is-100 home theatre system to play music cds to get the best sound

"Best sound' is subjective. Giving the hardware the best signal path is the limit of our advice.

If your unnamed CD player has a compatible digital output, use it. I'm sure its manual speaks to that.

With a single midrange and treble-leaning satellites I wonder just how good the system CAN sound, sound-stage-image-wise. Many sub/sat system get away with a solo sub because (in theory) bass is hard to localize but no theory asserts non-directionality for midrange.

When a reviewer has to compare them to something truly bad (TVspeakers) to make them look good, well, it's faint praise...

http://www.stuff.tv/review/sony-ht-is100

"If you're used to listening to tinny, bass-free two-channel audio from your telly's built-in speakers then the improvement the Sony brings will have you thinking your ears have been given a clean with a high-pressure jet hose. Which is a good thing."

What are the best settings for bass , treble and mid in order to get the best sound

There are no hard and fast rules for setting Bass, Midrange and Treble on your radio. Depending on the type of music you are listening to with your radio, it can / will determine your sound settings. To attempt to set the sound settings on your radio, select the sound settings and set all of them to 0. ( Bass, mid, treble ), then start playing your usual music. With the music playing move the treble setting in single incriments 1,2,3,4 and so. A comfortable setting is usually a 5 out of a total number of 6. Then move over to Midrange and repeat process. A 4-5 out of 6 is usually comfortable. Finally comes the Bass. You do not want to overpower your speakers with too much bass as this will damage them over time. Repeat the usual process and listen carfully for any baffling or distortion as you move through the numbers. A comfortable bass setting is usually 2-4 out of 6. Again I must stress that there is no hard and fast rule for settings. It boils down to the type of music, and what your ears tells you sounds good. What sounds good to me might not be enough for you, or vice versa. I hope this helps! Cheers!

I have set up a BOSE Accustimass System with my STR de485 receiver. How do I adjust the treble/bass?

hi,
if u are using bose speaker system then remember one thing. go to speaker setup and select all the speakers as large not small. then only u will get a good tone. bose speakers will handle the output power of ur amplifier.
u can only adjust the bass and treble of ur frond Channel speakers. for that
select multi channel surround sound and the increase and decrease the bass and treble
ok

What niles power amplifer would work effortlessly with my bose 901 speakers? i am trying to achieve a deeper bass and tonal level treble for my speakers even at a low volume levle thanks.

The 901 Active Equalizer comes with some bass and midrange adjustment for tayloring them to your environment and taste.

Your question is about personal preference, which none of us could possibly answer.

Since any amplifier worth its salt should just make the sound BIGGER without coloring it, your question is moot. What you want is NOT a quality amp. Maybe an equalizer?

Bass problems

At the audio mixer settings choose playback and look for something like "for advanced users" or like that. Here you will find the BASS - TREBLE control. In some older audio cards there isn't any selection like that.

House already wired up for wall speakers (2 wires) BUT

Hi...
The 4 wires are 2 for the treble/midrange 2 for the bass.
You can tie the wires in parallel ( one wire from one pair to another in the other pair and repeat) but you need to know how many "ohms" the stereo can handle.
Should say on the back of the rack system

My speakers sound flat with no highs at all

I am trying to work out if you have damaged the speakers and amp too.
Have you tried a pair of headphones on the amp? If they sound ok then your amp is fine.
Assuming it is, then speakers have what's called crossover units in side each of them. This splits the sound into three parts. Bass, midrange, treble. The bass is handled by the woofer's, the midrange by a middle sized speaker or or it's combined with a tweeter, which of course handles the treble.
Connecting a 1.5 volt battery across any of the individual speakers will cause it to pop if working. If the speaker then is not getting sound then the crossover unit is to blame.
When you look at the crossover unit, it will have coils and capacitors (non polarised) on it. The bigger ones deal with the bass and the smaller ones treble. If you find a fault say on the crossover of the speaker, for example no treble comes out of it. Then start by replacing the capacitors. Use the same value as on the capacitor and remember they fit any way round.
