I have a Ricoh 1035 black and white copier/networked printer. There are 4 trays but the copier only sees tray 1 and tray 2. So when I try to print to tray 4 using a desktop utility with the correct driver, the printer takes paper from tray 1 only.
There is a wire harness that connects the two bottom trays to the main machine. The connector might be loose or have a break in the harness. The main machine is not seeing the bottom two trays. Let me know if this helps.

Open all possible covers and trays from all sides and try to find some tiny bit of paper with your eyes and hands (it could be well hidden). First of all these places:
1) Paper tray/cassette, especially place where the paper gets pulled inside the system.
2) Under the toner cartridge.
3) Duplexer
4) Try to figure out the complete way which paper moves from the paper tray till it comes out.
If every paper seems to be removed, just try to turn off the power, then turn it on again.
Unfortunately there is no manual available digitally as the printer is quite old.
Have you removed the paper tray to see if there is a piece of paper behind the tray ? Paper will frequently go behind the tray and wind up in the size switches and or the tray lift gears.
I would check that first. Let me know.
if you press the finishing button on the display does it so stapler function there ?
or try taking the staple cartridge out and then close the door on the finisher and see if it says out of staples. if it does it knows it has a stapler unit.

b2 is the second paper tray on the bottom of the machine. there is a chance that it is stuck on the roller above the tray so you may need a flashlight to see this.
That's strange. I just downloaded it to see what might need to be done, and the bypass tray was available, and it's a standard feature, so it doesn't have to be manually added or anything. I, however, used the Ricoh driver which is identical, because Ricoh owns Gestetner (in case you didn't know) so you may try installing that one. maybe it's a glitch in the Gestetner driver package. The comparable model is Ricoh AP 4510, and you can get it here. I hope this helps:
It should be looked at by a technician to see if the sensor or motor needs to be replaced.
If you want to use the machine for now and bypass the error. Turn the power off on the copier. locate the finisher cable in the back of the machine. Pinch and release the cable and turn the power back on.
