The notebook does not start

I have got a Sony VAIO VGN-T1XP which is not booting: may be system board problem?

  • sh903668 Apr 16, 2009

Ok I tried booting without battery first and then without hard disk: it does not help. I believe the buit in video card is gone because no screen; also the cooling fan does not move

With the pc on I connected a usb stick (wich has a led) and it lighted on just in de beginning and remained off: so

I believe the whole left side of the system board is faulty

First check the battery...to do that..remove the battery and connect power cable...if not boot then ...the problem is either in motherboard or the power adapter...

It could be yes, but not always. It can be RAM failure, battery failure, Add-on card failure. first thing to check is its power source, then RAM, Add-on card, checking also it power button. Sometimes non booting unit is only due to dirty contact.

I usually check its power source, then clean the RAM with soft eraser, if that doesn't help I try to check other add on card. Next is it drive I disconnect them then try to power up without the drive if it can able to POST.

You forgot to test the RAM, its also a major player with this kind of fault. Cleaning it with soft eraser and reseat.

Once the setup files are copied don't let it boot from the cd-drive anymore, at the prompt "Press any key to boot from cd...", please do not press any of the keys. However you do require the cd in cd-rom for the rest of the setup.

My Sony VAIO VGN-T1 has a 40G hard drive which I want to upgrade to around 320G or as high as possible. I am told 80G is the biggest available in SSD HDD & that to go any higher will be a lesser...

Not the case at all. Capacities range from 8GB all the way to 2TB. You won't get as much storage space per dollar from an SSD but the performance gains will be substantial.
