Please try re-seating the hard drive.

If you look at the bottom of your laptop, along the edge there should be a screw larger then all the rest which holds a small panel. Remove this screw and panel. Remove the drive pulling lightly, with steady pressure, straight out. Place the drive back in and screw the panel back.

We had a lot of these issues, and they were often solved by just this manner alone.

Let us know if we have to go any further.
Good luck

Re: 2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)

It is telling you that there is a problem with your hard drive. If you know how to get to your bios screen and have a recovery CD you should be able to restore it. That is IF the hard drive is in fact not defective. Otherwise you will need to to take it to someone who does computer repair and either let them replace the hard drive or depending on your ability do so yourself or purchase another laptop

Just replaced my hdd on Compac Presario 2100 but the system is not detecting it.

This model laptop came with a 60Gb hard disk and if you installed a much larger capacity hard disk then the BIOS cannot detect this hard disk.
For the BIOS to detect a large hard disk a BIOS upgrade is required (if there is one available) Check the HP/Compaq WEB site to see if there is a BIOS upgrade.
If not the try a 120Gb or smaller capacity hard drive.
As an alternative -
You can keep the existing hard drive in your laptop and use an external USB hard drive to store your data.

In dell 1525 laptop not booting and not flashing the light of harddisk

Please enter into BIOS and check whether the Harddisk is detecting or not. If not detecting, try to remove the hard disk and reinsert into laptop. check it.
If HDD is detecting, press F8 to enter to Safe mode after power on laptop. if safe mode is not working.. reinstall/repair the existing operating system with your OS cd.

Lenovo r 61, type- 8933 am 7 error 2100 hddo error (1) pxe-e61 media test failure pxe-m0f exiting broadcom pxe rom

Hi chetan5karma,

I see that you are having issues with you Thinkpad R61 Laptop getting an Error 7, PXE-e61 Media test Failure.

I Believe the Error that you are receiving means that the Hard Drive in your Laptop is not responding anymore or is not anymore fixable, the error that your mentioned states that your "HDD" Hard Drive needs to be replaced on your Laptop there is no other way to fix this error you Hard Drive is already undetected and most probably not bootable anymore.

You can google pxe-e61 there will be many possible causes but all fall in replacing the Hard Drive, the only option your can try with this concern is removing your Hard Drive and reconnecting it back again, this is to see if the Laptop will detect the Hard Drive again or not.

Also you can try reformatting the Hard Drive using a Windows Installation Disc to see if it will be detected by Windows.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for choosing Fixya,

HDD Maxtor 80Gb IDE: Harddisk error! At boot it say's Primary harddisk error. Press F1 to continue. *When I press F1 nothing happens. *When I go to the bios at IDE Configuration and hit refresh at Primary...

OK the only shot you got is to geta USB to SATA/IDE converter dongle, connect to another PC's USB port. Hopefully, you will be able to read it. Otherwise still plugged in you may be able to use recovery software and get you DATA back. Recover my files is one,

System can't fully boot, cannot communicate with internal hdd. have used restore disk to get back to dos prompt

Your harddisk is not detected proeprly in bios .
For that when you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or "del" key to enter in bios .
Then check your sata option is disabled in bios .
Then save settings then your harddisk is detected properly.

Acer laptop is not detecting harddisk

kiran,
i thought you have SATA interface, in that case your XP will not be able to access your HDD. But now as you told there is no option for SATA means you don't have SATA interface in your motherboard and the problem might be in your HDD.
  1. So, check out your HDD connection from motherboard and try to install again if no luck then do the following step.
  2. If you have important data/files on your HDD make a backup copy. Then make try to delete all partition and make new partition, then proceed further installation OR if you have recovery disk try to use it to recover your system as factory setting.

Thanks
Iqbal
