The standby/timer is flashing 6 times on my Sony KP-53HS30 TV

Your mainboard is gone bad, happened to my tv and they had to replace it.

tv will not turn on, red flashing light comes then turns off.
light flashes six times.

I have not repaired this particular model. But sometimes there is an IC they refer to as a standby IC. It may also be known as a controller IC. I call it the powerline regulator. And in one case the older Sony Projection TV had an audio output IC with a standby built into this IC. So,this advice is refering to a standby IC. And this IC may be in another form already mentioned. Please visit a Sony Tech. The work inside a projection TV is very complicated, you will need to see the specialist. Please count standby light blinks and let me know.
There would be pause of 3 seconds in blinks.
Also confirm is it Sony KP-57HW40 model?

I don't believe it is stuck in the sleep standby mode, rather it has shutdown with an error. Is there a pattern to the flashing? Does it flash a set number of times?

I gave this advice earlier, but since your problems is just about the same, I hope this helps.

This problem is linked to a power supply issue. The SSB is part of the power supply chain and will cause system failure if the board is defective. I have seen to many of these type of modular power supply boards fail. The shutdown circuit is detecting excessive voltage/current, and in the process of turning off the set it may have blown something else. I am begining to suspect a design flaw, which happens from time to time. I would suggest having a qualified TV repair person take a look at the TV and work on it.

Plugged in TV. Timer Standby Light just flashes continusly. No Picture and No Sound.

eight blinks means, "High-voltage error" and the probable cause location listed is, "T8005 is faulty (D board)". T8005 is the fly-back transformer assembly.
