This is usually caused by the y axis movement system. Occasionally this system can come out of sync, and cause the issue you described. Your y axis pulse motor may be going bad as well. In either case it would be best to take your machine to a Janome dealer for repair.

I had the same problem with my X52 and searched high and low on the internet for a solution. What I did was pop the base off and found a loose connection on the x-axis wires. I re-routed both the x and y axis contact wires underneath the p/s2 port and put it back together. Seems to be working fine now. I will not that opening up the controller will void your warranty and it also could be possible that your x-axis problem could stem from something completely different from what was wrong with mine. If nothing is broken then this might be a easy fix.
first take out the dregdraw and the driptray.
Put one screwdriver on the sensor for the driptray/dregdraw at the botom left and one for the door up i the right corner .
This must be done when the machine is on.
It will then think the brewing unit is in position and move to the starting location.
my mp100 mustek player will not switch on or charge up also it will not switch on when the mains charger is plugged in. the light on the charger went out and will not come on anymore.
Try to format it using the FAT file system
connect it to your PC. and type the following command
let's say that your drive letter for the mp3 player is (X:) then you should type:
format X: /fs:FAT
then press Y for yes
now shutown the mp3 player then start it again..
