The fridge is not cooling. I've had the repairman out twice now. The fridge stops cooling for a day, everthing melts. I call the repairman, by the time he get out to see me a couple of days later the fridge starts cooling and working. This is very frustrating because the repairman cannot fix what's working. When the fridge stops working the light still work and I can hearthe fan, the weird thing is that the water dispenser stops working. I know that the fridge is starting to work when the water dispenser starts working.

Re: Kenmore side by side Refrigirator
Sounds like you have a defrost problem. The timer could be playing up and taking too long to defrost, which causes the evaporator to ice up, hence no cold air to the fridge and the water line freezes up, hence no water dispensed. When the timer does eventually defrost the fridge then everything returns to normal. This could also be caused by a faulty defrost terminator or bad connection on the defrost element.

if you open the freezer back wall you see that there is ice all over that prevent colld air go to the fridg. use hair dryer to melt all the ice (turn unit off) then you might need to replace the heat unit or the thermostat in the freezer to prevent it to build ice again.
check that the condenser fan is working and condenser is clean.. check that the evaporator fan is working may have to push switch in to make it run. if ice is visible behind rear freezerwall you do have a defrost problem find defrost timer and with a flat head screwdriver turn it until you hear a click and everthing shuts down. if yoou hear ice cracking you have a bad defrost timer(very common failure)you may have problem in the defrost heater but you might find that a little over your head and a repairman might be the cheapest way to go, because buying parts can be expensive and they are not returnable
The refrigirator side of my fridge has stopped cooling, the freezer still works but the alarm went off last night and flshed" power failure" on the lettered panel. I have it set at 33 degrees but it keeps rising it is now at 61, help!
