SOURCE: disc error displaying on je500 and read error c13 on je330 model

The error means that the player is unable to read the table of contents (TOC) on discs any more.If it's an occasional error then you can try switching to TDK blanks as they seem to be easier for flaky players to read, but if it's happening regularly to all discs then your machine is unrepairable due to a total lack of spare parts.

On the plus side, there are millions of MD units now lying unused as folks have moved on from them and as they're mostly worthless people don't generally bother with trying to sell them. Almost every piece of MD gear I own has come free of charge via my local FreeCycle and Freegle groups. Whatever you do, don't buy a used player from anyone: they're all getting on now and the TOC error is an age-related fault which may occur at any time.

If you wish to see exactly what features other machines have then visit the superb equipment browser at minidisc.org. The site is hosted but n longer maintained though so some information is out of date, but it's still the most comprehensive source of free information about MD available.

Sorry there's probably no hope for your players, but I hope that my reply has given you a practical alternative means of solving your problem.

1) It's more likely your laser died than the the drive failed.

2) Run back to your repair guy, and when they fix it (IF they fix it), ask to see it work before you go home. They damned well better fix it for free!

3) Buy another one on eBay.

C13 means the machine cannot read the TOC on the disc. It is possible you have a disc with a bad TOC. You may have left it near a magnetic field, such as a speaker or a component transformer. Try another disc. Or take a disc and erase it, then record on it. See what happens.

Wont load Disks error c13

The error statement indicates the disc cannot be read by the recorder, it may be dirty or damaged or recorded in an extended format which this deck cannot read.

C-13 read error

You forgot to say if it is a C13 read error or a C13 REC error.

Your owner's manual suggests that it is a problem with a dirty and/or crappy disc. Try a different, cleaner one.

To whoever can help...I have a Sony, RCD W10. I am receiving 2 error codes when I proceed to record a cd. Error code C13 and C14. Does anyone know what this might mean? Simply frustrated

They are what you call fault codes. A fault code provides a machine-readable identifier that can be used to programmatically identify the error condition and respond as appropriate

Sale c13 read error

C13 read error means that the player is unable to read the TOC (Table Of Contents) on the minidisc. it has to read this first so that it knows where everything is stored on the minidisc.

TOC errors can be caused by faulty minidiscs, those which have been incorrectly finalised or by a faulty head assembly on the machine.

If possible, try to see if you get the same problem with different brands of minidisc, and also whether minidiscs recorded on other machines work on your player and whether minidiscs recorded on yours work in other players. Report back with what you find as it helps determine whether the player itself is at fault.

In reality though, it's a 9 year old unit and like all optical disc devices, minidisc heads do not last forever. If the head has failed then your only fix is to replace the player as spare parts are no longer in production and existing stocks are almost as rare as fresh dodo doo-doos.

Sony minidisc MDS-JE530 c13 rec error

This could be a solution for your problem, if you get a C13 error it's because of dust on the lens causing TOC read errors. Try blowing out dust using clean compressed air (the kind in the can used for computer maintenance).

C13 error !!!!

Amazing what google can find...

I was ion touch with the Sony tech dept. If you get a C13 error it's because of dust on the lens causing TOC read errors. I didn't have any compressed air in a can so I used a soccer ball hand pump and pumped a ton of air just inside the door of the unit. 2 seconds later it worked fine. No cleaner MD needed.

Doesn't accept md's

The manual says "C13/Disc Error: The system cannot read the disc information correctly. mEject the MD once, then insert it again."
It seems this error turns up when the system cannot read the disc properly, one reason for which is a dirty/dusty lens. Try a minidisc lens cleaner if you haven't already.
