Apart from running fast, when turned off there is a small backfire

    Cheers buddy that has been very helpful, but dont know where the idle screw is, the only  screw I can see is right at the bottom of the carb I wonder if this is the idle screw? by the way thanks

I am not sure what you mean on the "running fast" statement. If idle speed then turn the idle screw outward to slow down the idle.

The backfire is caused by turning off the ignition key when the bike is at high revs. let it idle down THEN turn it off. The backfire is there because the carb idle circuit is active anytime the piston is in motion. Gas goes into the cylinder as the bike revs down then a hot spot in the exhaust pipe finally ignites the built up gas. There is your backfire.

    I don't know what year and exact model your bike is. Can't say where the idle screw is.

    I am so thankful for ALL the comments and advice on how to stop the fuel issues on a Kaw 800. After studying them all I found my solution. TANK and PETCOCK. I was erronouesly convinced the carb was the culprit. This bike had fuel since 2005 with 3199 miles on it. I did rince the tank and added Seafoam and it ran good for 1000 mile. Then it happened. Fuel dumped out enmass. After 20 futile times into the carb, I read about the petcock. I took the tank down again and took out the screen. It was nasty and rust just poured out with another rince. So the solution was clean the nasty tank and petcock. Thank you for all the tips.

Charlene: According to https://www.briggsandstratton.com/us/en/support/faqs/engine-backfire-afterfire " What causes a small engine backfire & how do I fix it? Backfire typically occurs when the engine is decelerated rapidly.

Common Causes of Backfire:

  • Lowering engine speed too fast
  • Gasoline, which contains higher blends of alcohol
  • Carburetor adjustment set too lean
  • Muffler construction can induce backfire
  • Higher than normal engine temperatures
  • Some carburetors can induce backfire due to the sensitivity of internal transitional passages
    (This condition cannot be corrected).

Possible Fixes for Backfiring:

  • Lower engine speed slowly
  • Follow small engine fuel recommendations and/or switch to brands with low or no alcohol
  • Adjust carburetor for optimum performance
  • Inquire with equipment manufacturer about increasing air volume to decrease engine temperature"

Anyone k how to set the fuel and air screw on 84try zinger 60cc 3wheeler carberator ?
As long as you know where the air bleed screw is, then do the following; Screw the screw in until it goes no further, (dont force it). Wind the screw out for about 1 and a half turns. Start the motor, you may have to adjust the throttle stop screw t keep the motor running. When the motor is running (at a fairly slow tick over) adjust the air bleed screw outwards a turn or so, if the motor goes faster then your turning the right way, if not, then screw in a bit. What you aim to do is to get the motor running as fast a tickover as possible. When the moto speeds up adjust the throttle stop screw to keep the tickover at a slow speed, It's as easy as that, this setting should be finally made again when the motor has fully warmed up (as the cold start may be in action if the motor is cold).Good luck

2003 yz450f running too lean
First, try to avoid ethanol. It melts carb lines, and can goo up small passageways. Get some good gas and try again. Hi test if necessary. Check your specs, maybe the bike requires hi test.
Taking apart and cleaning involves soaking in fresh carb solvent to clean the small passageways. Is there an air cleaner? It may be clogged, test with it off.

Tickover to fast when warmed up.
I don't know the term tickover. If you mean it idles to high then lower the idle. It's a carbed bike right? Idle screw is on backside near front of carb but remember these Twin cams run on oil volume not oil pressure. The bike needs to idle between 1000 - 1200 rpm to maintain proper oil circulation. If you turn the idle down to get that lope or potatoe sound from the bike you can starve the engine of oil and burn it up. These aren't throw away rice rockets of yesteryear.

If i put on my a/c the performance of my engine drops causing my car to vibrate.
as the car gets older it will vibrate more.small engine(relatively)to a big power drain(the a/c) nearly 25% of engine power is taken up with the running of a/c on full. if you try to increase the tickover,when the a/c is not on the engine will run too fast....

Tractor wont start
For a small gas engine than won't start, think FAST -- Fuel, Air, Spark, Timing. You've replaced the filters and spark plugs and squirted in some starter fluid, eliminating the simple common fuel, air, and spark problems -- but I because of the backfiring I think your problem is in the timing -- like a sticking valve. Probably more than you want to tackle at home, but might not be as expensive as an engine replacement. Take it to a good small engine mechanic -- best bet is a lawn equipment shop that has been around many years. Drive a little farther to get to one if necessary.

Jeep Cherrokee 4 litre tickover to fast? what is
Slight language barrier here "tickovers?" But, I think you need to clean out the throttle body. If that doesn't help, check for vacuum leaks in lines and if necessary clean the idle air control valve. Once removed from the TB, do not turn the plunger, just clean it and the passageway in the TB. Take care not to loose the rubber "O" ring.

set both jets to 1 1/2 turns out and then fine tune it from there when it's running. Hope this helps
