The veritical adjustment is messed up and there are no controls to adjust for it. There is a big black box all the way across the top of the screen and it cuts off the heads of people who are standing up.
the vertical circuit has probably stopped working. The quality of these sets is awful. After I had it a few days I had to replace the picture tube. Piece of junk.the vertical circuit has probably stopped working. The quality of these sets is awful. After I had it a few days I had to replace the picture tube. Piece of junk.

If you mean that a black box appears on the screen, and you can still see the picture around the box, it means that your closed captions are on and set to TEXT. If this is the case, enter the menu, navigate to the closed captions page and set the captions to OFF. If you mean that the top of the picture has collapsed down, the vertical circuit has stopped working correctly and the set should be serviced by a qualified tech.

Good Day,
It appears that you may have a green drive issue. Try adjusting the Sreen Control it is located in the front of TV.
1) Remove Speaker Grill (it just pulls off) start at one end, 2) Remove cover (5-6 screws), 3) Adjust control. The control is located on lower right side towards bottom. A small black device with 2 rolls of controls, adjust the center control on bottom row counter clock wise, until you get a black and white picture.(adjust with color control to min).
If this does not work you light bulb (CRT) is bad about a $750.00 repair.
You have a focus/screen control box Find it and adjust the R/G/B screen drives When you first start Go to Menu turn Color off then with a mirror adjust the picture as close as you can to a black and white picture R/G/B screen drives, the little control box you are looking for will have 3 controls on top for focus and 3 controls under them for screen drives to each tube red, green, blue after you have adjusted to a black and white picture then go back and turn color on.
Adjust it your self you have a small Black box on it will be 6 controls 3on top for focus R/G/B and on Bottom are 3 screen drive controls R/G/B turn color off on menu then adjust screen drives as close as you can get to a Black and white picture, then go back to menu and turn color back on! with back off clean top of all 3 tube lenses.
you might need to adjust Blue drive on screen control to Blue tube.you have a focus and screen control box 3on top 3 on bottom of it 3 on top adjust focus to each tube R/G/B and 3 on bottom adjust screen drives.
First pull back Look for screen and focus block you will have 3 controls ontop for focus and 3 controls below for adjusting screen drive to each Tube R/G/B
turn color off on Menu NOW try to Adjust the red, greenand blue screen drives as close asyou can to a Black and White picture then turn Color back on in Menu also adjust Focus for each Tube Be sure to Clean Top of Tube Lenses of dust&dirt Just in case Post me your Model and Chassis Number it will be on back of TV some RCA Focus&screen drive Block maybe in front of TV if so remove front bottom panel their you will see control box.
Remove front bottom panel behind it is a small black control box top controls are focus controls for R/G/B and Bottom 3 controls are your screen drives adjust one at a time turn off G/B adjust red first, then Do Green and Blue fter adjusting focu to each tube leave them set then adjust screen drive turn color off adjust RGB for a Black and white picture get as close as you can then turn color back If after doing this you still have blurry looking picture look down into Tubes you should be able to see picture clearly in each one if you cannot see picture then projection Fluid need to be changed out. Call Mats 1-800-628-1118.
Remove back see if you can get to tubes top lenses clean all 3 from dirt/dust/ After cleaning off lenses there is a black control box has 3 controls on top 3 on bottom these are to adjust each tube R-G-B Tubes screen/ focus adjust one tube at a time--- Like to adjust red turn g,b.screen drive off turn red up adjust focus to a clear picture ,then green same and blue If you turn screen up to much it will either shut off or you will see Drive lines adjust back down.OK after doing this turn color off in menu adjust all 3 screen controls untill you have Black and white picture try to adjust as close as you can to get bl/wt picture when that is done now turn color on and you should have alot better picture.
the easiest way is to turn the color all the way down to zero. Then notice the overall color of the screen, if it doesnt appear as a good black and white picture you will have to adjust the screens. To do that you have to remove the speaker grill cover and the small access panel, then depending on the chassis you will see a small square with 6 dials on it 3 on top and 3 on the bottom it will have screen stamped on it. adjust those 3 untill your screen appears the best black and white picture as possible. Now if your chassis only has 3 dials on the sgaure control box those are focusdont adjust them. . then the 3 CRT boards will have the dials you need adjust those for the best black and white picture. when your satisfied that you have a good black and white picture. then turn your color back up and adjust the tint.Let me know if you need more assistance.
you have to get into the tv to do the adjustment. take the cover off and then look for the CRT tube and follow the yoke cables that will lead you to the printed circuit. you should see some small tiny knobs there. something like vertical phase or horizantl Phase..you need the verital to adjust the vertical size of the pic..good luck
