Pride hurricane, pre 2004, when throttle is released at any speed, the mag brake activates immediately instead of allowing the scooter to slow naturally, then applying the brake. all appears to be ok, is the fault in the controller?? any way to fix it? appreciate help, thanks

Things to check : Condition of the brake actuator and the condition of the brake shoes. If there are no flashing lights indicating a problem with the controller, then I would think it's all mechanical.

SOURCE: I have a pride victory xl8. Problem - was running

All scooters have a protection system built in to prevent burning up the motor, and the user, should the scooter overheat. It sounds like yours overheated. If the temp. outside was warm to hot, and your weight is near the weight limit for the scooter, and you are taxing the motors over a hill, or unstable terrain, then the scooter goes into "limp home mode", or just enough to get you a bit aways, and then it will turn off. After a few minutes to cool off, it will go again, but shut down fairly quickly because it takes a spell to let the whole transaxle-motor assembly to get cool.

Check your weight, and anything else you may be carrying with you on the scooter. Check the terrain, and incline you are going against. Throttle down for all these occassions. If you overloaded the system at some point, then you may have overheated the brushes. Remove them (2) with a standard screwdriver and see if the copper coil is still flexible and springy. If not, replace it/them.

The damage may already be done, so it may need a new motor/transaxle assembly. An expensive proposition I'm afraid.

Pride celebrity x scooter flashes 6 times and s ometimes 5 times

hi, they are good readings, the brake resistance is a bit low...however does the brake click when moving the throttle lever to go forward or backwards ?

if the brake is not releasing the scooter will never move...

does the throttle lever feel loose ? you need to convince yourself that the throttle part is working correctly , if you double checked everything including the brake and connectors then we need to look at the controller ..

I do offer a free testing service...

When I want to get scooter to go, it just beeps.

2 beeps=too low battery voltage
3 beeps=battery voltage too high
5 beeps=solenoid brake trip or free wheel mode
remove key then push then push the manual release lever in completely
6 beeps=throttle trip
throttle control lever may have been depressed while
inserting key so release control lever completely

Pride hurricane backing up

Under ideal conditons this scooter will go one half speed in reverse. On rough terrain it may be slightly slower. I am assuming that the speed control is all the way up (clockwise), the batteries are fully charged and in good condition. If all of these are true you may have a worn throttle potentiometer. It may have bad contacts on the potentiometer in the reverse section of the control. This control can be cleaned bu the solution is only temporary. I recommend replacing the throttle pot after teload testing the batteries to verify they are good. You should make a resistance check on the throttle pot to verify it is faulty before replacing it.

My Pride Hurricane PMV will not go forward or backwards when I engage the trottle all I get is a click but it will not move. The battery meter shows fully charged.

Make sure that the manual brake release/freewheel lever is in the DRIVE position. The click indicates the brakes are being released but the motors are not kicking in. I hope this helps- good luck!

I HAVE A CELEBRITY DX SCOOTER, IT IS 4 YEARS OLD. I HAVE HAD NEW BATTERIES FITTED, BUT THIS LAST 3 MONTHS THE SCOOTER RUNS FROM NORMAL SPEED TO SLOW AND SLUGGISH THEN BACK TO NORMAL EVERY FEW MINUTES.CAN...

Hi John.
The problem could be a worn throttle pot ( wig wag ). Next time you are driving the scooter, try moving the ends of the speed lever slowly up and down, instead of in or out as you normally use it. If the throttle pot is worn, moving the lever this way will make the machine speed up or slow down.
Another cause might be a faulty battery lead connector or a faulty motor connector.
Good luck. Neil.

Did you purchase a brake at the same time. It sounds as if the brake might be sticking on, which may have in turn, burnt out the motor. Sticky brakes on Pride Hurricane's is not an unheard of problem so I would check this first. Can you push the scooter whilst in freewheel? If not, its almost certain the brake is seized. It needs to be checked for voltage and resistance. Resistance varies depending on the make and type of brake so I'm unable to give you a reading for this but the voltage at the brake connector plug should be 24V or more (basically, whatever the combined battery voltage is). You should also be able to hear if the brake is releasing by an audible click when the throttle is pressed and released. I think it might be best to have your dealer check the scooter for brake and motor problems, such as what I have already mentioned plus a Motor Draw test. The problem could very well lay with the transaxle. If this is creating a lot of reistance, the motor will struggle and possible burn out. Hope this has helped.

The scooter runs but super slow, I purchased two brand new batteries but it continues with the same problem.

hi,

Is there any change speed when you change from 4mph to 8mph ?

if not first check the controller under the seat, normally a black box, make sure that all connection onto the controller are clean and tight,

Check the motor brushes, undo the screw caps carefully, these can be brittle , remove the brushes clean , make sure the brushes move freely within the motor,

Check the brake on the side the motor, this normally has a freewheel attached to it,

Remove the brake unit but do not disconnect the two wires, and test again is the brake clicking when you power away, if not it's not releasing hence the slow speed, check the brake for open or shorted connection.
