After purchasing the 504, i am none whatsoever aware how to place dvds onto the player. a colleague has plaved some mp4 videos on my table top but i need mpeg. im aware of the various downloads but am going round in circles trying to sort. the last version i tried was telling me it will take 11 hours to do a 1 half hour film. please help
Download PocketDivx Encoder. It will format to avi compatible files for Archos.
WIndows Media PLyer doesn't play mp4 files, neither does the Archos unless you buy the plugin for it (podcast plugin), so try converting the file to windows media 9 format or perhaps divx (look for DR Divx a decent simple freeware converter if you need one)
Oh you can't play mpg either unless you buy the other plugin Cinema or somesuch.
I have put plenty of DVDs onto my Archos, but I use the optional cradle which connect to the TV as well as DVD players. You simply connect the DVD player onto it and play your dvd, which switching on the Recorder function on your unit.
Alternatively, can you convert the DVD onto your PC and then transfer onto the Archos in normal fashion, or is this what you are saying you tried to do already?
