The + and - buttons on the front of my 2405FPW monitor do not seem to be working. I have tried everything I can with respect to resetting the monitor as it powers up with no result. The other buttons work, but are pretty useless without the + and - to navigate between menu options.
I would like to fix this myself. Any ideas?
Any idea where I can get a manual that tells me how to crack the thing open, obtain and fit replacement parts?
I am also pursuing an alternative approach:
Many monitors can be controlled by software on the PC usinging a protocol called DCD/DI. Samsungs Magictune is an example. Indeed the panel used by the Del 2405FPW is a Samsung product, but that software only seems to support a limited range of Samsung models. I found an alternative program called WinI2C-DDC and this allows me to control the position and brightness, so I have partial solution. Magictune would give me all of the control of the screen from my PC...I spent a while upgrading my Matrox 450 drivers to no avail.
Anyone know of any other DDC-CI software out there?Any idea where I can get a manual that tells me how to crack the thing open, obtain and fit replacement parts?

More than likely the tact switches inside the unit are bad and have to be replaced. The switches are relitavley cheap $2-$3 each however doing it is another thing.

The front buttons on the plastic body of your device, are meant for just 'Touch Type Operations'. They may result in malfunction, if used forcefully.
As in your case, it is stuck in it's position. Now you may try to take it out by slightly beating the outer front near the button ("Slightly"). or you can use anything with sharp tip as a needle to get the button out from its position.
If everything else fails, you need to get it to the nearest repair center. As it needs to be unscrewed.
You need to tell your system to do it or press the button on the monitor. Usually, only tablet PC's have the recognition software to do it automatically
I've ran into similar problems with monitors before. Turns out that some monitors need their own driver installed in order to work with the video card, and, ?guess what?, they don't come with them. I usually find them at the manufacturer's site or driverguide.com Hope this helps, if not get back to me with the make and model and I'll do some research.
Video card in the monitor sounds to have failed. It dosn't take alot to short them out these days.
Try the analogue port (make sure everything is off when you connect it up) and then see if you get to access it from the menu.
Sometimes these monitors are a little fussy about selecting things that it didn't detect as valid when it powered up.
By powering up I mean from when you plugged power into it, not just turning it on with the power button.
It would need to be unplugged from the wall for about 5 mins to drain out the power that is stored in the main filter capacitor.

How do I open the flat screen monitor (Dell 2407WFP) case so I can get at the touch switches?
