Question about GE JE1540 Microwave Oven

1 Answer

GE Profile Spacemaker XL 1800

4 years old. Just stop working as if no power. I checked the outlet with another appliance and there was not a problem with the outlet. I plugged it back in and nothing works. No lights, fan, clock...etc. Just completely dead. I'd rather not pay $700 plus for a new microwave if I can fix it or have someone fix it for less. Has anyone else ever had this problem?

Yes the main fuse has blown for several different reasons. If you have no electrical know how, or experience using a multimeter you really should have a pro take a look at it. It could be anything from a bad capacitor, a bad High Voltage diode, a bad door switch or maybe even a bad magnetron or a control panel. Not really a job for a novice to attempt, as the main AC fuse will not blow for no reason. Good Luck

Check fuse. If bad test the door switches. Replace bad one and then the fuse.

It sounds like the main transformer has failed. It would be cheaper to replace the whole microwave than repair this one. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Hope this helps. Good luck.

We have a GE Profile Spacemaker XL 1800. It began making a laboring noise and stopped cooking at the same time.

Sounds like the Magnatron or the HV Cap or diode is failed. Process of will show you which one. Very dangerous area to work in, not for the untrained. Eric

I had the same problem. You need to replace the turntable motor. I used a local appliance repair shop and they charged $45 for the motor plus $65 labor(a house call). I just checked with searspartsdirect.com and they have the motor(part # WB26X10038) for $22.27. Oh well, at least it works.
