Does anyone have a solution for a totally black screen on my ti-83? It's not a contrast issue and so far, that has been everyone's solution. Does anyone have any other ideas? I have already checked the contrast and have tried removing the batteries. I also held down the delete key and the clear key while replacing the batteries. There have been some websites offering ways to clear the memory that also have not worked. Please help if you can.Does anyone have a solution for a totally black screen on my ti-83? My calculator would not turn on. The low battery notification never showed it just shut off and would not turn on. I put fresh batteries in and now when I turn on my TI-83 Plus, the screen is black. I found this somewhere else on this website
and it worked for my broken ti-83plus which had same odd startup symptoms.
Remove one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold CLEAR while reinstalling the AAA battery. Continue holding CLEAR button and press ON. Release buttons and press CLEAR again. Calculator should be normal mode now. ;0)

If the screen is not busted, adjust the contrast without going all the way to totally dark or to totally blank. Calculators do occasionally become unusable (old age, mishandling).
Adjust the screen contrast. Turn the calculator on. Press and release the 2nd key. Press and hold the down-arrow key to lighten the screen. If you go too far, repeat the process with the 2nd and up--arrow keys.
Try increasing the screen contrast. Turn the calculator on. Press and release the 2ND key, then press and hold the up-arrow key for a couple of seconds and see whether the screen darkens. If you go too far, repeat the process with the 2ND and down-arrow keys.
You may have to force the calculator to boot up. Details are in the article . Read the part on Ti83Plus family. The article contains links to additional articles. Hope it helps.
