Treble died on Harman Kardon HK980

Treble died on the HK980- adjusting the treble up/down does nothing, sound is muffled. The amp treble died and killed my KEF Q50 tweeters (or maybe the treble crossovers). Tested HK with headphones- but no treble in phones. Tested KEFs on another amplifier- tweeters definately killed by the HK980...Can the HK be repaired?

Probably it can be repaired. I'll caution you that HK customer service is terrible. If I were you I'd replace the KEF tweeters and look for a Marantz amp or receiver and if it needs repair do so. I worked on a friend's HK amp (converted it from 220 to 115 v AC) and wasn't impressed with the sound in the least. There is nothing so sweet and the warm Marantz sound.

SOURCE: treble and bass function

In looking through the service manual for this model, I see a Tone Switch that allows you to bypass the tone circuits, and it may be the one all the way to the left of your front panel. If that's not it, I would get out the owners manual and see what they suggest. I doubt that you actually have an electronic malfunction with your unit.

Wow, general problem here, but the most near your problem could be, power failure, or the Power adapter is bad, or a energy failure at home, time to buy a new adapter.

SOURCE: Harman Kardon Soundsticks I - back of tweeter has come off

I took a screwdriver and pried mine open (at one of the ends, not the center), snapped my tweeter back in place, took model airplane glue and a Q-tip, covered the ridge side (not the grooved side) of the case with just a little line of glue and stuck them back together. Worked perfect.

Thanks for the answer - If we have 3 controls as Bass, Mid and Treble. If we keep those in 12 O Clock position, will the output level be equal. In using the Bass and Treble control only (if we have...

If all are in 12 o'clock position they are "flat" (nothing has been added or subtracted foam input signal) If you only have bass & treble, yes adjusting will affect "mids" but Mids change can go both ways dependent on increase or decrease of Bass and /or treble. By increasing bass you will pull some mids up also. By increasing treble you'll subtract some mids.

Constant poping sound

Here is the support section for Harmon Kardon

I don't know if there supported anymore but you might be able to find what youre looking for on EBay. You could try plugging the speakers into a seperate outlet and see if the noise is caused by electrical interferance. Make sure your microphone is muted if your not using it. It might be time for a new pair of speakers too.
