Compaq v2000 this laptop is about a yr old and it worked great up until 2 weeks ago. it starts up then goes to the loading windows screen then i get a blue screen of death. i tried taking the battery out and holding the power button down but nothing. i am currently running the harddrive test on it so far so good. when thats done i will try taking one of the ram sticks out (2x1gig sticks) anyways if that doesn't work i suppose its my hd.. can anyone shoot me the specs of the stock harddrive?

No its a software problem.....I believe you are using Windows XP. can you tell when it loads or starts to load it stops at the windows loading part only does it go near the boot screen ie; XP loading........like that or straight to blue screen. Ive seen this before its not a hardware its a software. Have you got the installation disk XP if so.....insert it in the CDrom and start the machine up from scratch. Allow windos to go through the rig ma role of installation until it cant go no further. Press "R" for console go to the DOS line and type chkdsk /p allow windows to repair the problem when done remove the disk and start up again.....if Im right it should go pass that nagging "loading windows screen"...I hope it works for you, you'll be elated.

Running home ed windows on presario v2000 (now five yrs old) windows loads but harddrive continues to run inefectually - cant access programmes etc - then screen turns blank after approx 20-30mins - hard...

Backup your programs immediately to a thumb drive or external HD. The hard drive may be on the brink of failing. You can replace a hard drive, it's your information thats on it that you may not be able to if it totally crashes!

Compaq Presario V2000 won't go past welcome screen

try to insteret you cd recovery from your laptop box...
if you cannot, restore your backed up data...
if you do not have any backed up data!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My compaq presario v2000 turns on and loads up but it doesnt go to the login screen. it loads it but doent show up so it restarts

when it starts to boot Force it into bios mode and check the win operating system . sounds like you picked up a boot virus and windows is not in control of the system.

Hi there
If you tried in safe mode and still no joy you will have to perform a system recovery with the recovery disk you got with the laptop or the recovery partition, Please be aware that you will loose data.

Screen turns black suddenly

Hi guys!
I think your problem is one of the following:
1- AC Device or Batteries.
2- RAM.
3- Graphic Card.

So, plz check them by order.

Compaq presario V2000 power off unexpectedly.

There are quite a few laptops and towers (my e-machine) that is not compatible with service pack 2. However, they are compatible with service pack 3 release candidate 2. Down towards bottom of page, choose which language.

BSoD, Garbled Screen, Boot Failure.

If you are getting garbage on the screen before windows tries to load the laptop probably has a bad motherboard.

It's possibly only the video output is going bad on it, try hooking it to an external monitor and see if you get the same weird stuff on that screen.

Plug and external monitor to it if that goes unfortunely the LCD in that lappy is stuffed...if not then something else has gone amiss come back here to tell us a bit more info.
