I would check all the basic stuff first. Is the print wheel locked into position? Is the platen all the way forward? (lever right side) Is the ribbon installed correctly and not cocked up on one side? Do you hear the hammer striking the paper? If you hear the hammer striking the paper, it is a ribbon problem. If you don't hear it, it is a hammer / print wheel problem.
There is a clutch system under the ribbon carrier that has to rotate to move the hammer, see if you can see if this part is rotating, also there is a spring that puts pressure on the hammer. If this clutch is not moving it may need replacement,, or cleaned with alcohol.
It sound like you have a broken part. If the hammer is not hitting hard enough, the armature theat make the hammer strike the keys is broken. This is a common problem with the ax's
It is pretty common for the pad on the solenoid to strike the keys wears out, and for the batteries to be dead for the memory. Your machine probably needs a good cleaning, oiling, and a new pad for the striker. about $100.00 in the shop.
Back the screw handle out so the end of the screw is inside the the large collar. Remove the nut and washer holding the flywheel on the crankshaft. Screw the puller collar fully into the flywheel. Now turn the screw handle inward to contact the end of the crankshaft. Tighten the handle down then strike the handle arm with a hammer for extra pressure on the screw. Next, strike the center of the screw with the hammer. Alternate strikes between the center screw and the screw handle. Do that until the flywheel pops free. Some pullers have flats for wrenches instead of a screw arm. The principle for removal is the same.
You will need a flywheel puller, ( dealer can sell you one > low cost ), and a hammer.
Remove the nut and washer holding the flywheel. Now screw the puller into the flywheel as far as it will easily go. Be sure to back off the pullers' center screw when mounting puller. Tighten the center screw REALLY tight then firmly strike the center of the puller screw with a medium size hammer. Alternate tightening the center screw and striking with the hammer. To tighten the center screw you will want to strike the screw handel with medium hammer force. A few blows with the hammer should pop the flywheel.

Turn oFF the typewriter, take the ribbon out.....use the lever on top to release and remove the print wheel cartridge. Lightly rotate it to see if it will move and reinsert the cartridge. snap it back into place. Turn on the machine, the typewriter should move the carrier to the left and reset the printwheel....if it is snapped back properly.
