Toshiba d-r4su won't finalize

I've recorded 2 discs now, off-cable with timer, and they won't "finalize". They'll play back on recorder but not on other players because they are not finalized. I get "error 14" on display, and "this operation was terminated because of error on the disc' in the on-screen display. I'm using brand new Memorex dvd-r discs. I'm anxious for a resolution. Thanks in advance. Frank [email protected]

I "solved" my own problem by browsing the interweb-my machine simply does not like memorex discs. Sonys work just fine. I'll be trying a few other brands when they are on sale just to know which will....and which won't.

I too have had sporadic problems finalizing the discs recorded with my D-R4. Usually the problem only occurs when I try to include some type of menu, so I finalize my discs without any sort of menu.

Unfortunately my current problem is once I have recorded the disc and taken it out for later finalizing, a warning appears stating "This disc cannot be finalized. Playback is the only option." I am EXTREMELY frustrated as this previously seemed to be a totally random occurence, but I now have a small stack of discs that I cannot finalize to enjoy anywhere else. Any ideas?

I would also like to state that after trying MANY different brands of DVD, I have had the fewest problems with Imation DVD-Rs in my D-R4.

To clear "error 14", press the "display" button on the remote control - this has worked every time my toshiba has an error 14 message

Solution #3 worked for my situation.

The "Err 14" was cleared by pressing the Display button. This button is located on the remote under the door on the remote, in the lower left corner.

I was able to clear the flashing "Error-14" from the display by just unplugging the machine for a short time and plugging it back in again. Unfortunately, I still can't finalize my DVDs that I recorded from a Toshiba VHS tape player. I read somewhere that it's related to the media type and it mentioned a few brand names, but I haven't been able to try that solution yet.

Hi. I have a Toshiba D-R4SU. It will record onto any disc, but it won't finalize any disc & every time I re-try to finalize the same disc I have previously tried to finalize, I get the "ERR-14" message. I have tried (1.) pressing the "display" button on the remote control every time, (2.) ejecting the disc & then re-inserting it back into the recorder (BOTH ways >>> with the recorder on AND off), (3.) switching the disc out with another disc, & (4.) recording the same video footage onto a DVD-R disc of serval other brands (Memorex, Verbatim, Sony, etc. (Sony & Verbatim are 1x-16 (16x/1x) write speed.)); but none of those 4 solutions solve my problem any time I re-try to finalize the disc. What I'm currently trying to finalize is a video I've transferred from a Laserdisc to a Sony DVD-R disc with 1x-16x write speed. It did record perfectly onto the DVD-R disc, but the recorder will not finalize the disc. I have transferred a video from a VHS to a Sony DVD-R disc with 1x-16x write speed in April or May of 2013 (this year) & it did finalize the DVD-R disc after recording onto it. The ONLY difference between that transferring process & this transferring process is that, for that process, I used a VCR &, for this process, I used a Laserdisc Player; also, the connections/hook-up/set-up/etc. were exactly the same for each process (VCR's\'/Laserdisc Player's Video Output > Digital Video Stabilizer's Video Input ; Digital Video Stabilizer's Video Output > DVD Recorder's Video Input ; VCR's\'/Laserdisc Player's Audio Output > DVD Recorder's Audio Input ; DVD Recorder's Audio & Video Output > T.V.'s Audio & Video Input), except, for this process, the Laserdisc Player is basically a 'replacement' of the VCR, if you understand my logical thinking. I used an S-Video & RCA Audio type of Connection System. Does any1 have the solution to my problem? Any & all help is very much appreciated! Thanks to any1 who does help! Please help!!!

How do you clear an error 14 flashing on the led readout of the recorder?

Also if you use 16X media you need to contact Toshiba to get a firmware disc.  This has been known to happen to me a lot before I had a firmware upgrade.  The unit can record to 16X but not finalize.  I have always used Memorex media.

Sometimes it's a heat problem. Try hitting the Dimmer button to turn off the blue light in front. After letting it sit for about 20 minutes, then try finalizing again, that usually works.

To Determine CD recording problem: Track1 records and plays back O.K. Upon completing track2, display window flashes continously "Now PMA" (Updating disc contents) NO playback or sound on track 2.

It is possible that until you finalize the disc, the only track that will play is the first one. Unfortunately, once you finalize the disc, you cannot record additional tracks to it. You can verify this by finalizing after recording the second track and seeing if they then both play. If that works, you can safely burn additional discs with confidence that they are burning correctly even if you cannot play each back after burning and must wait until finalization to test full burn.

My toshiba dr4su will no longer record on dvd-rw discs nor will it format a blank or prerecorded dvd-rw.Ihave used this recorder successfully for a couple of years. It will play back dvd-rw. When I attempt...

If its an older recorder it could be the usual problem of a greasy center-disc =
95% OF THE TIMES I could fix a problem like this was by cleaning with rubbing alcohol the rubber ring on the little rotating disc in the center of the drive mechanism. !!!! Because users always stick their index finger into the hole of all the CD'S for inserting a disc into the tray that a tiny amount of grease gets deposited onto the little rotation disc which touches the center of any inserted disc at about half an inch from its center hole. (underneath) When its greasy the discs slide and the inserted discs speed stays uneven and slow.
You must open the drivebox ( after unplugging the power-cable) to see and clean it.
Be careful to not look at it with power "on" because the laser will make you go blind (danger!!!!!!!
I heavily use a Toshiba DVD recorder since 12 years and it is my most reliable and most versatile recorder, while my brand new Sony recorder lasted only 2 years - Others as well had problems with finalizing etc. but in general the cleaning of the little center-disc that pushes from underneath against an inserted DVD to make it spin helps the most.

Scheduled a timer recording of a program on a DVD+R and when I went to play it back all I got on the screen was noise and snow. I now realize that I used the wrong disc (should have used only DVD-R). ...

Hi,During timer recording adjustment you must have selected what ever you want to record..i.e: Tuner Channel , or ,Video1 input ,or Video 2 input etc..This problem is related with Source selection but not with - + type Disc..wrong disc will refuse to record at the beginning..

The noise and snow shows that your recorder was Recorded an unadjusted RF channel..thus no TV signal was available during recording ..
I assume that your DVD recorder has built in TV tuner in...To correct the problem, first you make an automatic Ch set up ,search the available channels either on the Cable (if you have ) or RF local channels thru Arial Antenna..
than you try to record again by carefully selecting ..you will record TV RF channels successfully. Or you can attach another video source to your Recorder thru the RCA cables on the back panel and by selecting the respective SOURCE in accordance withe cabling you have made than you will record the AV signals available on your Receiver..
If you need more help pls let me know for further advise.

I just bougth a marantz cdr 300 cd recorder, everything seems to be working fine, but I'm not able to listen what I just recordered on any other cd player.Marantz cd 72 mr 2020.Thanks

Hi,
It sounds like you haven't followed the last step to the burning procedure. All you need to do once you've completed burning your disc is to Finalize the disc. Read below why you need to finalize as well as the steps to follow in order to finalize the disc.
Hope this helps ;)
How to Finalize Finalizing is writing the TOC (table of contents) on a disc so a CD player can recognize the number of tracks, the total time for each track, and their location on the disc. A recorded disc must be finalized to playback on a standard CD player. Once finalized a CD-R disc can be played on CD players that support CD-R playback. CD-RW discs can only be played on CD players that support CD-RW playback. Consult your CD player owner's manual to confirm supported formats. Finalizing is necessary to: • be able to play a recorded CD-R or CD-RW disc on a CD player • prevent further recording on a disc • avoid erasing tracks on a CD-RW disc • record text information onto a disc you record Notes: • A finalized CD-R disc can never be recorded onto again. • A finalized CD-RW disc can be unfinalized for more recording. • The CDR300 can play back unfinalized CD-R or CD-RW discs. • SYNC REC+FINAL mode automatically finalizes.
Here are the steps in order to Finalize your disk
1 Push Stop. The display shows the number of tracks and their total playing time. 2 Push FINALIZE. FINALIZE is displayed for about 3 seconds.

My Toshiba DR430KU dvd recorder is not recording. I hit the record button, and the light comes on, saying that it is recording, but nothing gets recorded.

Hello

Secure the audio/video connection cables that attach the source device you are trying to record from. Try this step if you do not see a picture when trying to record from a source device onto the Device. After unplugging the cable and checking for any damage, plug the cables back and attempt to record the content to see if this resolved the problem.

Secure the power cable that attaches the device to an electrical source if the unit will not power on or if it intermittently loses power. If you think a malfunctioning surge protector may be at fault, you can 'bypass' the surge protector by plugging the device into an electrical outlet. Replace any surge protectors that appear to be malfunctioning and have an electrician examine any outlets that appear to be "dead."

Insert the disc that you would like to record

Press the "Edit Menu" button on the remote control while playing the disc or while playback is stopped.

Use the up and down arrows to select "DVD-Video Finalizing" in the on-screen menu, then press "Enter."

Under "Menu Create" select "None," then under "After play final title" select "Stop." Select "Next" to move to the next screen.

Select "Writing" in the lower right of the screen.

Select "Yes" or "No" to tell the machine if you want it to power down when finalizing is complete. Finalizing will then begin and a progress bar will appear.

Contact your electronics dealer or the Toshiba service department if the disc still does not finalize.

Sony DCR DVD108 not finalizing disc, lost data

I noticed that too with my "VR" (and NOT "Video") formatted disks. I don't think you can finalize the VR ones. Instead you have to use the Sony Import tool to grab the videos. If you are like me you probably remember using the import tool with Video formatted disks BEFORE finalizing them and it takes forever to copy them. They must be finalized to view on other devices, copy using the import tool quicker, etc., but VR formatted disks seem optimized for importing (and can be edited on the camcorder directly.

Says blank DVD-RW is not formatted, then formats -- then error

I have same TOSHIBA D-VR4XSU VCR/DVD RECORDER. According to the
manual, you (COULD) can use for recording: DVD-RAM, DVD-RW and DVD-R (see page 50). WRONG!!! I bought all 3 types of discs, but after few
weeks I got same experience you got now. Just type DVD-R works. The other
types were - wasted money and a lot of time trying to finalize the disc. I had to
throw all into the garbage. Try DVD-R and you should?? be O.K.

I have toshiba dvd recorder, the problem is the recorded dvd cannot play with other player. Do I have to return this recorder as it just a week away since i buy it

Hi there,
Make sure you Finalize the disc when you are done recording, otherwise it won't be read on other players or computers. To do this you go to Setup> Disc and choose Finalize. It takes a few minutes per disc, don't turn off the player while it it finalizing. In the same Setup menu you can choose an option to autofinalize the disc when you are done recording, so you do not have to to it manually each time.

Check to see if you are using 16x media.  If you are you need to get a firmware upgrade from Toshiba.  Contact their support number listed inside of the manual.  They will ship you a dvd to insert into the unit.
