Question about IBM ThinkPad 770 Notebook

Laptop screen my compaq laptop screen sometimes goes dark. It is approximately 3 years old. I can still barely see that the screen is on, but it is very dark. Usually this happens if I fold the screen up or down. If I leave it up, it won't usually happen. The screen does not flicker or anything else. Any suggestions? Thanks so much. Juli

Sounds like the switch that tells the cpu when it's open or closed is going bad. On most laptops there is a little switch that protrudes from your keyboard (usually in upper corners). Try cleaning it with isopropyl alchol(rubbing alchol) and a q-tip and see what happens. If you can't locate the switch on your model get back to me and i'll research a little deeper for you. Hope this helps

It seems plausible that by your description the 3 year old turned the darkness on the screen all the way down. So I would try changing your brightness settings to see if that helped. It may also help to restart the computer. If your brightness is all the way up, and restarting the computer doesn't allow you to see anything (even in Post) then something more definitely happened.

Laptop screen went black

You can try to adjust the monitor settings by the buttons on the monitor, but this usually is part of the natural progression of a monitor dying.

Laptop dark screen
The laptop will reduce screen brightness when on battery to reduce the battery consumption. It should happen every time. You can adjust brightness with the fn+f10 but it will be dimmer when running on battery.
