Thanks for the solution reapersito, saved me going off tap at toshiba. Bought 3 "Gigabeta S" for my kids 5 weeks ago, one is away getting repaired (error 5) then another got the white screen. Aaaargh !!!

So, what happened when you connected the thing to sync with a PC and rightclicked on the tool-tray item for the Gigabeat? Maybe you got a menu about Upload Portable Media Center? If not, go into applications and see if the gigabeat stuff doesn't happen to contain the bespoken user manual. Open it...read it.... Usually there's a little button-sequence to prepare the player and another to restore the Portable Media Center program. Happy discovering.
