Cd rom not recognizable, but came with laptop?

Even if you don't have driver for CD-DVD ROM with the Operating System,your BIOS must recognize the CD ROM.Set the BIOS to Default setting and check it recognise now.Check if you have disable anything related to CD ROM in your BIOS. Remove your CD Rom and place it again and check.

Drive light comes because of power supply to the CD-ROM.

If nothing works,Download the firmware update

U need to reinstall the driver for you cd/dvd rom drive u can do this by "Start right click computer select properties click hardware tab ,device manager then dvd/cd rom drive uninstall driver then click action tab check for hardware change i should be gone after this step go to the dell web site and download the correct driver for your cd/dvd from the web site here is the link http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen this should fix the problem hope this helps

you may want to contact dell support www.dellsupport.com they should be able to help you get the right driver for the cd rom. If not you can go to www.radarsync.com and use this free utility it will scan your entire system and give you options to down load updated drivers and drivers that are not installed in the system..

try to clean the cd drive lens with a lens cleaner...

Remove the battery the memory the ac adapter,the hard drive, the cd rom.Press and hold the power button down for twenty seconds.try again if no go you will have to replace the systemboard.

the cd player could be bad it doesn't seem to be reading anything. or your windows needs reloading because you have other programs overwriting each other and windows.too much on the drive defrag it

double-click MY Computer

Double-click the CD Rom Drive

You should see a file called setup, double-click it, the install should run

select the system confi option to view the factory config deatils and the upgardes option to check for upgrades.
if u go to manuls u will be able to get the system specifications as well as minimum and maximum supported.

Check your BIOS make sure your HDD and CD-ROMs are enable I did the same thing and found i had been laying to much in BIOS
