Belkin router and modems

Hi. I just purchased my first Gateway laptop and a Belkin wireless router (F5D9230-4. I learned I need a modem. Which modem do I purchase to go with this router? I have a desktop and a verizon router, but that router doesn't work with laptops unless the laptop stays plugged in.

I would suggest returning the router and/or purchase a modem router, as it does away with all the connection problems and the need to click dial to connect as a modem router is always on and does not require a main pc to be on. It will also probably be cheaper than buying a seperate modem.

Belkin F5D77230-4 - connecting to modem

Hi,

It would seem that:
Your modem has only USB output;
Your Router has only Ethernet input with WiFi & 4 LAN port outputs; and
You want your laptop to be access the Internet through wireless connection.

There are USB to Ethernet converter/adapter, an example is shown here.

There are on the otherhand, comparable modems to what you have that provides both a USB and an Ethernet output such as the ProLink H9000 shown here .

Perhaps your best course of action is give your provider first a call and see if you can require them to replace your modem with another model/version, one that has an Ethernet output or a combination.

Alternately, a way can be configured if you have a desktop that has both a USB and Ethernet that we can set up as Gateway (but this is the long method).

Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need further information.

Good luck and kind regards.

It sound like youe wireless card in the laptop is not configured correctly.
The TCP/IP settings on the laptop's wireless card should be as follows :-
In the wireless card's Properties - TCP/IP
Enablw - Obtain an IP Address automatically
Enable - Obtain DNS server address automatically

This is the same for the LAN card.

My Belkin G+ router is set up but not working

Hi,

Based on your description, the only thing that I can think of that would be the issue is a router to modem compatibility issue. If it's, please attempt to use the same type of modem as is used in your home to help overcome the issue. Thank you.

Belkin n1 wireless usb adapter

Dear Friend,

1. Connect your ISP modem to your PC and configure as Bridge mode.

2. Remove your ISP modem and connect your wireless router to your PC and configure as PPPOE mode. (refer http://www.wi-fiplanet.com/reviews/article.php/3645166 if any doubt on configuration)

3. Now connect your ISP modem to wireless router, The modem should connect to your WAN cable.

4. And Give the wireless router's IP in your laptop as Gateway (In TCPIP settings of your Laptop wireless adapter / or configure DHCP)

5. Now you can access internet on both systems.
